i think they are desperate for readers/watchers and are willing to do anything to stay afloat. i don't read the papers, i will not watch their ridiculous productions and encourage their narcissistic effort to gain market share. what a joke. especially the one with the blond hair extensions. what on earth!

i consider loudoun a pretty cool place and they cheapen our street cred. we look like a bunch of country bumpkins that just discovered sliced bread.

anyway, either get the production quality up to national standard or don't do it. also, companies are buying these struggling local papers and keeping the same people to run them. hello??? if they didn't suck, why are they all filing for bankruptcy.

just a thought.

Did anyone else see the LoCo reference that the Loudoun Independent is being bankrolled by none other than the infamous, M.C. Dean?

GIve these girls a break, they are underpaid and in an industry that is just trying to stay afloat.

p.s. I knew the original "Liz" statement did not come from Liz Coe when I saw the word "ostensibly".

Liz Coe

It's not your fault. I understand you are doing what you are told to do. It's just that what you are told to do is one of the reasons that newpapers (and journalism) is in trouble.

LI does better research than LTM or LT.

Here are some questions for you...

How did the school site selection process become what it is? Where are they doing it better? Why does it take so long to make changes in the process? Who disagrees with changes and why? How supports change and why?

I have a list of other topics, but really, that's your managing editor's job.

Produce a good product. People will read it. People will then advertise in it. Profit.

Hey Ben good to hear from you, it has been awhile.

Of course Ben, LI can even have a re occurring role. As a matter of fact my wife said you and LI had the only real exciting personalities at the beer bust you threw after the election. ha ha ha And I need to get a role for you too, Ben.

Perhaps we can do a scene like a road trip from my place over to the brew pub with both you two in it. Recreate the exciting version of the beer bust, although we need to find other actors to play some of the other personalities that were there, as a few are real duds in real life, compared to how they act here in secrecy. ha ha ha I can think of two right off hand. ;-)

Don't worry LI you can have Loudoun. My potential TV series is nothing like the craziness that goes on here locally. ;-)

Ben, my old friend! Good to see you, digitally speaking.

I hope Lee isn't stealing my Loudoun TV series idea. I still need to finish up the casting on that.

I'm not Liz (Coe or otherwise), nor do I play her on TV. Web 2.0/Rich Media, etc. - just a progression. Video feeds will continue to increasingly appear on web sites. I think the women (or men) who serve as anchors will do just fine. Some people will like it - some won't. It really doesn't matter - this is where things are headed.

Beyond that, just a quick SHOUT OUT to Leej - Leej - I strongly recommend that you create a cameo role for LI in the home movie pilot that you are producing this summer.

Liz (not Coe) I am no media professional - I just play one in the blogosphere! You're always welcome to chime in here on any topic.

Todd and truthseeker, I think there is potential here - we need to let things play out a bit. I don't really need the video of the burning house to get the gist of the story, but it would be interesting to see. I think the real value lies not so much in background footage as it does in providing more in-depth interviews with those in the news. I think The Independent is way ahead on that one, but I did like the extra SB member interviews on LT. LTM is the newest to this medium and will hopefully pick it up a notch.

Liz, my intention was not to disparage the pseudo anchors (I guess I did it again!). I really meant to question why the people who run the local papers are attempting these video projects at all? We know the local papers were struggling even before the recession and are way understaffed. Why put this extra burden on your reporters. To make the video succesful the reporters will likely be asked to taken ob even more duties. The key for all three is to get more b-roll (on-scene video). If you are talking about a house fire, show the burning house. If you didn't make it on time, show the aftermath. As I stated above, I don't need someone to read me a watered down version of a news story. Video is a visual medium. Ms. Coe, Ms. Bartram and Ms. Burns are pleasant on screen, but they need to offer more to the viewers.
