Mr. Hugo, are you interested in responding? Or is this just free (or maybe not free) space you used to get a note out?

Wow - this man is a member of the Va Energy and Coal Commission! I hope it doesn't actually do anything. His ignorance is as outstanding as his rhetoric is overblown!

1. Doesn't he realize that the utilities are in favor of cap and trade? see http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-07-26/utility-companies-just-exhausted-after-defeat-on-cap-and-trade-measure.html

2. Doesn't he realize that cap and trade is the free market approach to "deployment of carbon capture and storage and other clean coal technologies"?

Everything that is worthwhile has its costs. The Clean Air Act (cap and trade that worked! from G. Bush, the smarter (cheap shot!), the cleanup and protection of our rivers and waterways over the last 40 years, and every great thing the federal government has done (and that individual states could not do), has its costs, but the alternative of doing nothing would have meant a poorer world. Personally I like the fact that you can kayak and fish in the Potomac these days. I'd like to be able to eat oysters from the Chesapeake again. Any opposition to legislation simply because it has costs or because it requires federal action shows an ignorance of history, or a cynical misstatement of it.

I did a quick check on Hugo’s legislation and found that he has sponsored and passed legislation on net-metering and wind. Seems to me that Hugo is just saying coal is, and should be, a necessary component to our Country’s energy policy.

"Congress can and should work to achieve a meaningful energy policy that encourages the continued funding, research demonstration and deployment of carbon capture and storage and other clean coal technologies. Additionally, any federal policy enacted by Congress should promote energy independence and security for Virginia, as well as America, by fully utilizing our most abundant energy resource – coal."
.
What is your proposal specifically? How much do you want to fund? How much for carbon capture? Define "clean" in "clean coal". Do you support solar (which a recent report suggests has just passed nuclear in cost-effectiveness) in any way?
