DSCN0628This morning was the final big campaign rally in Fairfax at Interstate Van Lines. My wife and I joined a huge crowd of Republicans out in Springfield at Interstate Van Lines for the customary rally, followed by a day of working the phones, hitting the pavement and knocking doors for Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling, Ken Cuccinelli and our Republican House delegate candidates across Northern Virginia.

.

The keynote speaker of the event was Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour – an appropriate figure, as he lead the RNC the last time the Republican Party rose from defeat and took back Congress for the first time in 40 years in 1994. He recalled being in Fairfax in 1993 holding a similar rally for then gubernatorial candidate George Allen, and again, Virginia lead the way in the Republican resurgence.

stone-poisson

I tell you, the venom coming from the Poisson camp is getting so bad and so ridiculus that the “Poison” insults of Dick Black now sound prophetic.

Greg Stone employed some in-your-face retaliatory tactics and Ric James writes it up nicely here.  Shameful.  Poisson can’t be confident of sticking around if he’s stooping this low.

There’s really no other way to phrase it. The Post wrote an editorial today attacking Attorney General candidate Ken Cuccinelli, calling him an “embarassment” and a bigot.

.

If I’m surprised at all, I’m surprised that the Post didn’t layer on any more hyperbole. There’s not even a single reference to a theocracy in that piece.

.

You’re slacking, WaPo.

.

On the other hand, calling out a candidate at this point in the campaign when most people’s minds have been made up doesn’t make a lot of sense. What does make sense is that the Post recognizes that Cuccinelli will be the next Attorney General, and this is their first shot across his bow that they’ll be heavily scrutinzing him on the job.

.

It’s good to see they’re at least recognizing what is almost inevitable at this point.

On one hand, it’s hard not to blame Del. Chuck Caputo for constantly and desperately spreading mistruths about his opponent and his own record. He was elected on a fluke in 2005 (the long-standing incumbent was ousted in the primary, creating an open seat) and was able to survive in 2007 by benefiting from a great political climate despite being outworked on the ground. Feeling the heat, Caputo has determined that his best chance to win is to deceive everyone, because reality doesn’t favor him much.

.

.

But that doesn’t mean he should be able to get away with it. Voters deserve to know the truth, and more than just correcting the lies he’s spread in this campaign, the truth in the 67th District is that Chuck Caputo has become just another typical politician. But first, let’s get to the lies:

Word on the street is Stevens Miller did a teletown hall phone call last tonight for about an hour.

He called houses as the VT football game kicked off AND the World Series was on.  Really knows his district, huh?

Rust for Delegate!

Former NY Governor George Pataki’s endorsement of Doug Hoffman for Congress is as far as I’m concerned the most meaningful endorsement in the race yet. With national Republicans having gotten involved, many to shore up their “conservative bonafides” (i.e. most of whom randomly endorsed for their own political gain), Pataki would only have gotten involved if Hoffman was the best chance we had to win.

A week ago, this race could have gone either way. While I think this race sets a horrible precedent for us as a party, supporting conservative candidates over our parties nominees, I understand the importance of retaining this seat.

That all said, I just donated to Doug Hoffman. If you feel like doing so, you can here.
