Ken Reid – Early Nominee for 2011 Turkey of the Year?
Is it just me or is there something odd in Leesburg district supervisor candidate Ken Reid’s most recent campaign email?
The Loudoun County Republican Committee last night endorsed an excellent team of reform-minded candidates for School Board.
These candidates deserve your support — in particular, my Leesburg friends Tom Reed and Bill Fox.
I am working closely with Tom and Bill on their campaigns, and Chairman Scott York is supporting them, too (See picture to the LEFT). Please support them by supporting me. A PayPal link is attached.
(emphasis added)
Huh? I think that if I were inclined to support them I might, well, contribute to them directly and cut out the middle man. Thanks, anyway, Ken.
But wait, it goes on. Now, you get to help him celebrate his company’s anniversary by, what else, contributing to his campaign.

With his bizarre, egocentric email, his Delgaudio-esque oafishness at last night’s LCRC meeting and his past poorly disguised support of Sheriff Steve Simpson, Ken becomes my first nominee for TC Turkey of the Year 2011. That’s not to say there won’t be more nominees (it is only August, after all), but he certainly is an early front runner for the coveted title – and likely to gain ground on the competition as the campaign season progresses).
P.S. For those that may think I’m being too harsh on a fellow Republican during campaign season, allow me to offer this simple bit of advice to candidates that will go along way in helping them avoid embarrassment in the blogs and elsewhere:
Don’t be stupid.

I would use the Ben Stern audio clip from the Howard Stern show – “Don’t be stupid, you moron!”
Why do you think I ragged so much on Ken Reid up until the candidate filing deadlin??? Anyone who knows the political scene knows Ken Reid is annoying and obnoxious and not anywhere near as good a candidate as he himself tinks he is. I would rather not see Hatrick employee Kelly Burk back in office to vote on her boss’ budget every year, but knew she would be a shoo-in if Ken Reid was her opponent. And here we are with Ken Reid alrady embarassing the hell out of himself. Be prepared for more of the same. And four more years of Kelly Burk.
His email was the last straw for me.
And, as much as we’ve been patting Mark Sell on the back for the convention, he does not run a tight meeting. Monday’s meeting was all over the place, including obnoxious outburts by Reid. Can you imagine Delgaudio and Reid on the dais together? Good God!
You guys enjoy yourselves some Kelly Burk.
I can guarantee you neither of us wants more Kelly Burk, but that is exactly what is going to happen now that Ken Reid is her only opponent. Ask around the top ranks of the Loudoun GOP – it is a near universal opinion that Ken Reid was a horrible choice and that he will lose to Kelly Burk. But no one else stepped up, and recruitment efforts were horrible, probably because the Black Brigade so appreciated Ken Reid constantly coming to their defense as Black/Delgaudio Fan. This is what we’re left with. You’ll get the cold hard truth here instead of the party line cheerleading you’ll get at other sites. ken Reid is a horrible candidate. Wishing Kelly Burk away is not going to change that.
Yesterday I read Bob O’s response about Reid’s School Board actions, is that the totality of why Reid is such a bad choice or are there other concerns? If so could someone break down, point by point why Ken Reid is such a horrible candidate?
DCBB, you’d have your answer and more if you spent five minutes with him.
After thinking about this a little more and in fairness to Ken, he shouldn’t be my first or the leader.
Give that title to Ron “I can’t decide what party I represent or what state I live in” Speakman.
I think we’ll have a great set of nominees come November.
DCBB, Lloyd and LI just don’t like the cut of Ken’s jib. They attacked Ken, who is Jewish, for taking part in a Christian prayer event. The audacity of Ken to be accepting of other religions.
LI says they don’t want Burk but they seem to be helping her cause.
LI I have asked around the ranks of the Loudoun GOP. I saw Scott York at a Reid fundraiser. I know our future Delegate Minchew is a big supporter as is Delgaudio and many others.
Why do I see a picture of York and Reid, and have a flash back of a picture of York and McGimsey?
What is it with these ridiculous orange hats.
When I see orange I think CAUTION!
@TheAnswerIsPresent
The Bible reading marathon isn’t a “Christian prayer event”. It is a “postmodern religion prayer event” and Ken practices that postmodern religion. Ken has not been known to be accepting of other [fill in the blank].

Not sure criticizing Ken is the best strategy if you are truly serious about replacing Kelly Burke. The fact is, the guy is a rock solid conservative and works like crazy to help other like-minded candidates and members of the party. The only reason he was running all over at the LCRC meeting the other night was that he was drumming up support for my campaign (and endorsement). If you really think that his email was off-putting, call him and give him a heads up. The public flogging doesn’t accomplish anything, other than provide fodder for the likes of “Loudoun Progress” (that must have been a proud moment.)
I did not know that careless driving, rudeness toward citizens, and the use of our flag as outerwear were “rock solid conservative” “values.” Good to know. You must be a real peach, Sir.
Bill, I will agree Ken is a rock, and he fits nicely in the box with the other rocks.
