Bwana Deserves More Attention, and Looks Like I Need To Resign Myself To Senator Dick Black

By Loudoun Insider

Bwana at Renaissance Ruminations is the best blogger no one has heard of.  He blogs in short spurts of activity followed by long periods of inactivity and has a small single author blog that tends to fall off most peoples’ radar screens when he’s away for a while.  I suggested to NLS that he would be a perfect addition to Not Larry Sabato to add some variety and content to that flagship Virginia political blog that has been flagging lately.

Check out his site when you can and be sure to read his latest excellent piece on various General Assembly races.  He’s right on about the horrendous state of the Dems in NOVA and their last minute focus on rally the base issues like abortion and guns.  I am especially dismayed at the Mitchell campaign’s ridiculous final week focus on gun issues in a district composed of Loudoun and Prince William counties.  I need to get used to saying Senator Dick Black as much as that pains me.  What could assure the return of Plastic Fetus Guy to the General Assembly?  Only a disaster as complete as DPVA.

LI – I gotta say, Black is going to win because he’s been a different candidate. Now I don’t believe that leopards change their spots, but he’s confounded the Democrats in his oddly disciplined and on-message campaign that has largely stayed out of the social issues. Mitchell was waiting for Plastic-Fetus Guy to emerge so he could pounce, but he hasn’t by pouncing anyways he’s way overreached in a district that, quite frankly, isn’t exactly Arlington.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

That is true, Chris, but the Mitchell campaign is just awful as well. They appear to be following the John Stirrup model and we see how that turned out.

  • Independent Voter says:

Chris: PFG has largely stayed out of the social issues? Wrong! Only yesterday I received a mailing that was ALL ABOUT ABORTION. No mention of transportation, the economy, etc. The old leopard has clearly not changed his spots. That thought of how he would represent us in Richmond is frightening.

Plastic Fetus Guy: Stay out of my bedroom and out of my medical decisions.

  • Fred says:

Shawn Mitchell sending out pro-abortion mailers to Loudoun and Prince William County voters has got win the bonehead of year award. That may have been a decent strategy to win liberal votes in the Primary, but in the General, his inecessant campaigning on the right to kill an unborn baby has cost him the election.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Just another reason why the Dems are in such disarray – Brian Moran may be the worst Virginia state party Chairman since Jeff Frederick:

  • G.Stone says:

Repeat after me- Senator Dick Black.

  • G.Stone says:

Someone get over to Blackouts house and hide all the knives : )

  • edmundburkenator says:

I hope you’re wrong, LI. Black is a poor representative for this or wherever else he’s lived to try to get elected.

But the Ds do look disorganized in this race (among other races).

  • Loudoun Insider says:

The Dems in Loudoun County are a complete trainwreck, except for those who are running pretty independent campaigns.

  • Hillsboro says:

Very stupid move on Mitchell’s part. This would be sure to pick up some votes for him if he were in Arlington.

I wrote him a while back asking for his positions on the castle doctrine and Sunday hunting, as well as on some other issues. I never heard back from him, but he’s certainly made his positions crystal clear.

I think BlackOut’s going to have a busy 4 years.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

I am so sick of their daily update emails about Black not releasing his VCDL survey. Gun issues are not going to do anything for a Dem in this Senate district. The Favola district? Maybe that will have some pull – in Loudoun and PW counties, none whatsoever.

  • Say it with me…Senator Dick Black.
Those who’ve paid attention know I don’t back losers.
I even predicted Delguadio’s 2007 win . Except that I called it by 150 votes instead of the 220 he got.
Jim Clem was the one that threw me that year. I thought he’d SQUEEK by.

  • BlackOut says:

I think you actually predicted 219 that year Monk. Amazing actually.

Oh and this year you are 0-2 so far. Davis down the tubes, Dickerson down the tubes. But wait if you flip does that mean it’s not really a miss? I also think if you flip after the election it makes things a lot easier to keep a perfect record.

  • Wolverine says:

Actually, I suspect BO is secretly pulling for Dick Black to win. Then he won’t have to get a new hobby.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Wow, BPM toots his own horn again, over and over.

Dick Black was beatable by both Stirrup and Mitchell. They both ran horrible campaigns.

  • BlackOut says:

I am still impressed with Monk’s story about designing the SR-71.

  • bwanaha says:
