Letourneau Should Just Resign

By Loudoun Insider

For God’s sakes, first he sends a whining email to a constituent complaining about how much his Board job takes away time from his family, and now he writes this on his special adviser Barbara Munsey’s Facebook page:

Hope you had a great day–Happy Birthday! You could have spent it at the BOS Strategic Planning retreat today..I’m glad you didn’t!

If this job is such a hassle, maybe you shouldn’t have sought it out in the first place, and if it really is so awful to attend a planning day, then maybe you should resign.

Oh, and to top it all off, he wants to raise Supervisor pay.  You know, to make up for all the sacrifices he makes.

Gee LI, I interpreted it to mean lucky for them I wasn’t there with my big mouth!

As for the email, if he hadn’t responded you and the sock would be apoplectic about that.

I think it’s nice he wished me a happy birthday–I’ve done the same for others (I believe including you) on fb.

    Onward and upward, as ever.

    Meals Tax. OpenBand.

“Oh, and to top it all off, he wants to raise Supervisor pay. You know, to make up for all the sacrifices he makes.”

Holy Crap, are you kidding me?

County employees (besides teachers) have not had a real raise in at least 5 years. Not because they are doing a bad job, but the BOS just doesn’t budget raises.

They have received one raise, it was a 5% raise. At the same time, the county started requiring county employees to start paying 5% more into their benefits package. You would think that this would be a draw and they would be making the same amount of money. Nope. Because of how taxes are set up, county employees are now making less than before they got the 5%.

I understand times are tough but this guy is giving himself a raise while denying a raise to all the other people who work for the county. Are you kidding me?

  • Loudoun Moron says:

Agree with Ashburner. They both need to go.

I understand the sacrifices made by elected officials, but no one forced you to run and you can always resign.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

New post up about ED. He surely won’t resign and neither will Letourneau. Even if this part time job is a pain in the ass, it’s over $40k a year for a couple meetings a month.

  • He's a coward, too says:

I didn’t know much about Letourneau until I watched the meeting where he voted against denying the franchise for Openband. As I recall, his only reason was openband threatened a lawsuit if it was denied. This was in addition to the company taking meetings to lobby the board members just in case the campaign contributions didn’t work. But lousy Letourneau had no worries about the consumers who get crap for TV for the next three generations. just giving Openband what they paid for along with that dog Delgaudio. But hey, they were elected by ignorance. What can we expect? I guess all anyone needs to get their vote is a few dollars and a tantrum.

  • FedUp says:

He’s complaining about supervisor pay? The 04-07 Board nearly doubled the pay for the next Board beginning in 2008 and I believe also approved annual 3% raises.

What is their salary now, something like $47k a year? What does he want, a 6-figure salary?

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Come on, FedUp, these Supervisors have to attend several meetings a month!!!

  • NotJohnSMosby says:

You guys get a pretty poor return on investment out there. It’s $80k a year in Fairfax, but it’s a full-time job for all Supervisors. If Loudoun is still part-time, they shouldn’t make much more than Delegates or State Senators, which is $18/18.6k per year.

    I think you’ve been cheated.

  • FedUp says:

You’re right, LI, attending those meetings is such a sacrifice of their time, especially considering how all the supervisors are so diligent about attending every meeting.

How much time does a supervisor devote to their duties in an average week, maybe 15 hrs? Assuming a $47k salary, that works out to about $60 an hour. Yeah, they are definitely not paid enough!

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Whatever the hourly rate is, double it for Geary “The Ghost” Higgins.

Letourneau is having some kind of town hall meeting tonight. Poor guy, what a huge sacrifice. All for a position that he voluntarily ran for.

  • Shiloh says:

“How much time does a supervisor devote to their duties in an average week, maybe 15 hrs?”

Depends on the supervisor and his or her life circumstances. Those who are retired, work part time, or don’t have a job they must go to every day can and usually do devote much, much more than 15 hours. Think Steve Snow and Jim Burton (military retirees), Sally Kurtz (retired), Lori Waters (stay-at-home mother, before she went back to work full time), Susan Buckley (stay at home mother). For those who do work full time, it is physically and mentally almost impossible to do both jobs well. Think, at the extreme, of Geary Higgins.

  • Barbara Munsey says:

In addition, it depends on the district: one with more business applications, more development apps, more transportation issues, THE AIRPORT, and so on.

Leesburg magisterial district is in a very interesting position, because the town has its own planning commission, legislative body, etc to handle land use within the corporate limits.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

One other reason for Letourneau top resign – he appointed non-reforming LCRC apologist Barbara Munsey to the Government Reform Commission!

She does make a good point about Leesburg, however – maybe they should cut Ken Reid’s salary in half.

  • Eugene Edwards says:

This fool like the other eight talking heads should be recalled. He doesn’t know if his ass is drilled or punched

  • Barbara Munsey says:

    LI, rock on.

So, your current position is that the county seat is somehow a lesser entity at the BoS’ table? Okay.

Mr. Edwards, if you are neither drilled nor punched, you should look up the parameters for recall–Eric posted them somewhere here recently.

    It DOESN’T include “I’m p*ssed, so there!”

  • Gene Edwards says:

    Barb
How about mentally challenged? Quiet rnakly I don’t think the collective Iq of the BOS exceeds 100

  • Barbara Munsey says:

Quite rnakly Mr. Edwards, I disgaree with you. Under your assessment, at 11.111 pts. apiece, they most likely wouldn’t be breathing, let alone conscious.

But you are certainly entitled to your educated guess! :D

  • Barbara Munsey says:

    woops, sorry! QUIET rnakly!

  • Gene Edwards says:

Quite rnakly ! ops Barb my keys stick as I have a very old keyboard

  • Barbara Munsey says:

    Some of mine do too.
