FCC calls FAA Dumb
Well not exactly. But as someone who flies every week, I am glad to see the FCC chairman speaking out about how dumb the electronics rules on flights are. If an E-Ink kindle represents a danger to a flight then they should ground all the planes.
It just shows you – yet again – how dumb government regulation is in general. The rituals we go through in travel are a huge waste of time and productivity. The TSA is a mess. Even with Pre-Check, which I use, it is a waste. I go to a TSA line and see multiple workers watching each other and chatting and basically doing nothing while only 2 people are actually doing anything.
The pre-flight ritual is a joke on the plane as well. A speech that nobody listens to or would remember anyway, is followed by asking the exit row people if they will be good people in an emergency. Of course, they all say yes.
And then (although this is not Govt) the pilot gets on and tells me the weather in whatever city I am going to (as if that would change anything) and some of them waste my time telling me the route they will follow and other minute and meaningless details while I am trying to work or finish a call with a colleague.
I like the few stewardesses and pilots who throw in some jokes into the rituals. To those of us who fly regularly, it is welcome relief.
It is well past time to end the stupid electronics rules on aircraft. Can we libertarians at least be given that?
