Minchew’s Anti-Carpetbagging Bill – Too Bad It’s Not Retroactive

By Lloyd the Idiot

Del. Randy Minchew introduced this bill that would increase residency requirements to thwart would-be candidates from moving into a district just to run for office.

I like it.  And, apparently, so do some other bloggers – citing the recent antics going on the 33rd Senate district race.

What kind of person moves out of her home and into an apartment, leaving her husband and children there, just so she can get residency in a new senate district?

My answer to that — someone whose priorities in life are grossly out of whack.

MY answer to that is

Why is this bill necessary. If voters don’t want a carpetbagger they are free to not vote for one.

With our districts around the state as thoroughly gerrymandered as they are why should we allow our delegates and senators to pass a bill that will make it less likely they will face a credible challenge for their own reelection?

Oh my! Oh my oh my!! I agree with Lloyd.

    Two things to add.

One, I like the gesture and recognition to a problem Randy possess with this bill. The reality is it does nothing. The real problem is with a citizen’s ability to challenge and then have investigated the allegation of carpetbagging in a swift and timely manner. Without a legislated support apparatus this will have no effect.

Second, what a pure political move by Randy. Nothing but pandering. How about announcing this bill months ago, before the Wexton, May element? How about campaigning about this? How about sticking with this even after the 33rd election? I guess we will see.

One last thing what a crappy thing to do to your friend Joe May. My guess is this initiative is over, it’s already made the pre-election newspaper additions.

  • Independent voter says:

Randy, you disappoint me, big time. I thought you were above this kind of political BS! The biggest carpet bagger that comes to mind is the father-in-law of the guy who screwed you in a primary, which you should have won, albeit years ago. IV has a long memory.

This is clearly political BS aimed at the D candidate and pretty disgusting.

  • Wolverine says:

Biggest carpetbagger who comes to mind is that eternally devoted Dem New York Yankees fan, Hillary Clinton.

  • Not impressed says:

Biggest Carpetbagger in Loudoun County: John Flannery.
How’s his campaign to drag away the Confederate soldier statue at the Courthouse?
