I tell you, this is really good news. A number of names have been floating around as possible candidates for the next LCRC Chairman, some who I like and some who I most definitely do not like. That was part of the problem – most of the names being circulated were too closely associated with one faction or another and were certain to result in a bloodbath battle for control of the committee.
Glen Caroline is a man of impeccable credentials and character from everything I have heard about him.  After hearing his name being circulated in the last several days I have made lots of inquiries and have heard absolutely nothing bad about him whatsoever.  He is currently the Grassroots Director for the NRA, but he is not a single issue candidate.   Glen Caroline is a strong conservative but is not one to force his views down anyone’s throats. Most importantly he is a strong individual who will not be bullied or controlled by any one faction. He is exactly the kind of leader the LCRC needs at this moment in time – someone who can bridge the differences between the fractious factions, and one who is extremely well qualified to bring the LCRC firmly into the modern age of grassroots organization and use of technology.Â
Glen Caroline already has an impressive list of backers, including some I am not too fond of, and that’s actually a good thing. Some from various sides of the committee are not fully sold on Glen Caroline yet and want to impose their specific sets of litmus tests on him, but I believe if they talk with him personally they will be won over. He has the perfect combination of humility and confidence to tackle this difficult task and do it with class. The search for a chairman should be considered over in my opinion. Any further strife will only serve to sully the reputation of the LCRC more than it has already suffered. It’s time to stop the hemmorhaging and rebuild. Glen Caroline is the perfect man for the job.

Finally.
I have found Glen to be a tireless worker as Dulles District Chairman on behalf of all the Republican candidates. He is a no BS kind of guy and will take no crap from anyone. This is exactly what the paty needs right now. Knows what is right and won’t be afraid to say or do it. Glen can be a bridge between the two factions of the party and hopefully reunite the party. That is only if the pro-development crowd is smart enough to realize it. Glen is conservative as they come but is willing to listen. And that is what a Chairman should be all about. I’ll be supporting him.
1)If he can keep the radical right wing-nuts (Delgaudio/Black/et el) in check,
2)Suppress his political positions and views for the good of the LCRC and Loudoun County,
3)Stop the witch, oops, RINO hunting,
4)Appoint an Executive Committee representing the whole LCRC,
5)Accept all Republicans,
6)Get rid of the pledge,
7)Hold primaries not fixed conventions,
8)Recruit candidates in 2011 who will represent Loudoun County voters and taxpayers not special interest, candidates with integrity and solid citizens without applying a litmus test,
9)I am all for Glen!
Christmas came early this year.
Glen was Dulles District chairman a few years ago and was a master in grassroots organization. Under his leadership, we actually had too many people working a couple of polls back in 2003. Not a bad problem to have.
His organizational/grassroots experience is exactly what makes him the ideal person for this job. There has been far too much internal strife. Picking anyone too closely associated with any single faction will be a disaster and he doesn’t fall into any major camp. Glen is definitely conservative, but not overly so, and he is an exceptional public speaker, having seen him speak at several NRA events. Even though many may consider me to be a squishy RINO, I am 100% gun rights, and I find his NRA experience an attractive quality.
But again, gun rights should not be a litmus test, nor should growth or other issues. The only way back to victory for the LCRC is a big tent, and I believe he can make that happen, while not betraying his own conservative credentials. The LCRC cannot afford to be led from the same old group of people – even though he has been involved, he is not part of the old guard.
I really don’t know the guy very well at all, but I have heard so many glowing reports from so many sides that I cannot doubt the guy’s bona fides and sincerity.
1)If he can keep the radical right wing-nuts (Delgaudio/Black/et el) in check,
2)Suppress his political positions and views for the good of the LCRC and Loudoun County,

9)Then he’s a Democrat!
t,
People like you and narrow mind set will contnue to take the LCRC down to a non-existent path.
[...] The news given to me today is that Glen Caroline is tossing his hat in the ring and will run for election for the Chairman’s seat. Who’s Glen Caroline, you say? Excellent question. At this point, I usually flex my Internet muscles and start tossing out links to various resources pointing to an individual in order to begin the info-gathering phase of any important decision. After beating on a few search engines in a variety of ways, I was virtually unable to come up with anything except for announcements similar to this one seen over at The Virginia Federalist (scroll down), which is actually just a link to this one over at Too Conservative. [...]
The key thing that Glen Caroline has going for him is his desire to unite the party. The only way for our party to succeed is to return to our Big Tent roots. IMHO, all should be welcomed and all should be united behind the decisions made in a fair and open process.
From everything I have seen and heard from and about Glen, this is the type of man he is and a great leader for the LCRC moving forward. Looks like the start of a Brand New Day.
I think t may have just set a personal record for letters typed in a post.
One of the best things about Glen Caroline is he comes from the Republican wing of the Republican Party. The last thing we can afford is to have a Chairman who is agnostic on the Donkeys.
-t/Grapes, RWN, and your wingnut cronies: Are you ready to enter the soon-to-be LCRC Big Tent and accept this man’s leadership or are y’all just going to whine and try to sabotage his efforts? Don’t you want to see a unified GOP in Loudoun County? The time for change in the LCRC has finally arrived, get over it!
Under the ‘G’-14, BINGO; we’ve got a winner!! Snuff/tobacco chewing and ballsy to boot, Glen passes the leadership test. Now let’s see who he has on his team.
I don’t know Glen but look forward to meeting him.
Someone having spent time foghting for our second amendment rights at the grass roots level is exactly the kind of experience needed in a new party chairman.
Don’t know him, am willing to give him a chance, but as we badly need a breath of fresh air I’m very skeptical of anyone associated with the usual entrenched interests in the party. How close is he to Dick Black?
Glen Caroline is his totally own person. He is obviously reaching out to the divided sectors of our party with the purpose of uniting us. Look how our fractured party performed in November. This party needs someone who can reach out to everyone. Glen is a solid conservative who knows what it takes to win elections. And that, my Internet friends, is the name of the game we’re in.
So don’t ask how close he is with any one person or faction. Ask him how quickly he can get us together again and start opening up some cans of whup-a$$ on Democrats.
Glen, I am very happy to endorse you!
LM – It may shock you to discover that I’ve always been a big tent Republican, but I firmly believe the tent should be true to Republican candidates and Republican principles.
I have known Glen for 15 years and he is one of the most trustworthy people I have known. He has many great qualities which will serve him well in this role as party chairman:
* He practices what he preaches. I would argue that no one at his relatively-young age has worked as many polling places on rainy Tuesdays as has Glen.
* He is open to all viewpoints and always gives people the benefit-of-the-doubt. This will be important so that others will feel like they can approach him.
* He has clear political views that he can effectively articulate with facts and philosophy, not emotion.
* He is a terrific public speaker, having given literally hundreds of speeches and having participated in numerous debates.
* He believes in the county and the region. He chooses to live in Loudon. Keep in mind that Glen was born in another state. This should be looked at as a plus. He could live anywhere; he wants to be an active participant in positive change in the county.
* He’s downright friendly! Glen is equally comfortable speaking with a U.S. Senator or a fellow parent on the little league sidelines.
Go Glen!
Respectfully,
Adam R. Kaufman
Adam, it’s “Loudoun” not “loudon”.
RWN, it may be a shock to you (probably because you lack another 20 years of perspective in these matters)but FAR RIGHT republican principles and FAR right candidates don’t represent big tent . Duh.
Relax, you’ve got plenty of years to get it down pat, and as my father always told me….
“I’m going to get smarter as you get older. Remember I said that.”
So with Caroline’s announcement and traction, what is Staton planning on doing?
I would hope Staton plans on supporting Caroline and working towards unifying the Party to victory in ‘08, ‘09, ‘10 and certainly in ‘11.
Nacho Man – Accept my apologies for ever challenging the TC posse group think. We now know you are all-knowing on every subject you speak of. What could I ever have been thinking to challenge your decades and decades of experience to my decades and decades of inexperience.
RWN – apology accepted in the spirit of unity. Glad you figured it out.
Anything is better that what’s in place right now. Since I’ve been a member of the LCRC (2004), there has been no organization, issues management or common-sense policy direction designed to bring the group together. It sounds like there’s relief in sight.
I have had the pleasure of working with Glen and look forward to working with him again. I encourage all western Loudoun Republicans who left the committee to seriously consider a return to the LCRC in March and beyond.
Glen is solid choice for Loudoun County conservatives.
Ben Weber
I’m starting to get a little worried now – if the wingnuts see that a lot of non-wingnuts are supporting Glen Caroline, they may just feel that they have to put someone else up!
I haven’t heard anyone say that Staton himself has lobbied for the job, but that others are doing so for him. Tulloch is also apparently thinking about it. I can say without hesitation that two candidates who just lost by 20 points each would not be good choices to run the party and be its public face.
What in the hell could those two be thinking? Don’t they realize it’s all over for them? Just go away. Nobody wants you to chair anything.
Get a clue.
But you don’t have decade(s) of experience, friend. You have, at best….one.
Harmless Joe Budzinski climbs on board the Caroline bandwagon!
http://novatownhall.com/2007/12/14/glen-caroline-for-lcrc-chair/
Last night I had the opportunity to meet with Glen Caroline. Having very few encounters with him previously, I had a lot of tough questions about his plans for the chairmanship. He answered them all quite satisfactorily without hesitation. He is a genuine, hard working, Republican. I think that he has a clear vision for the Loudoun County Republican Committee and will be the best to lead us forward in the next two years.
I am supporting Glen Caroline for Chairman!
Sounds like Glen Caroline is the clear front runner
for the new LCRC Chair. A solid man, who will represent
everyone, unite everyone, and hopefully have an
Executive Committee who will represent the entire
Committee.
joel – hope there’s no position for you in the lcrc ’cause you did a bad job for ahlemann.
Hmm. Read between the lines, did you, #33?
The last thing we need are 2 of the biggest losers of the election, Staton and Tulloch, being in charge of the LCRC.
BD fan… can you elaborate? Or should we just have known better that you’re all about the blah blah blah, and really bring nothing to the table in any VALID discussion??
RWAP…. TIMES TWO!!!!!!!
Sorry folks, couldn’t resist; to the tune of one of Neil’s best.
“Where it began
I can’t begin to know it
But then I know its growin strong
Was in the fall
And fall became the springtime
Whod have believed youd come along
Hands, touchin hands
Reachin out (to Suzanne)
Touchin me (some sorry ass Republican)
Touchin you (maybe Eve)
Sweet caroline (Glen, Glen, Glen)
Good times never seemed so good
Ive been inclined
To believe they never would”
With grave apologies to Neil-baby.
Jose;
I thought Neil wrote that song about Caroline kennedy.
Either way it’s creepy.
Oh, Jose, that was painful.
Neil Diamond, oh please help us all. I am feeling sick.
Mr. Jose Kinusee,
My attorney will be contacting you.
Tired: Did you get your flu shot yet?
As of yet, I have not been offered any post with the LCRC, nor do I intend to seek one on any level. Be confident that you will see me around, however, as I intend to be a faithful volunteer to the various campaigns over the next two years. Nothing more at this point; volunteering on the ground level has proved to be the most rewarding to me. I like making differences in small ways. It comes without ceremony. Most people do not know any of the volunteers that give a campaign its force. Many only care about the prestige and the money. Let them have it, if that will actually make them happy.
I do not make a habit of commenting about losses and victories, for they are not in my hands. I will say, however, if by losing I have done a “bad job for Ahlemann” than so be it. I did my best. If that was not good enough, there is nothing that I can do to counter that. I gave all that I had to offer. I laid my life on the line for him. Quite honestly, I would have taken a bullet for him; still would. Unfortunately, faith and devotion do not always equal “victory”. These things will produce perseverance.
I have no regrets whatsoever. I did the best that I could and never compromised my values. At the end, it does not matter whether one has won or lost. What matters is what one did before that moment. Win or lose, what matters is that I have kept my integrity. One day, when I have a wife and children, I can look them in the face and say that I did right. I did the right thing. I will tell you now, had I been offered ‘victory’ for a concession, I would have rejected the offer. What victory is that? Victory over what? Victory over my morals, my passion, my very own life? Who is the true victor?
If none of that matters to you, than one day when you do lose, you will truly be left with nothing. Though, what would you have gained had you won? I do not know you and I will not judge you, but I hope that through my response you will know me. It is very unlikely that I will ever run for office. However, if I was elected into office, I hope that it would be said of me that I was elected because of God’s Grace and the kind of a man that I am in Him. Not because of my clever campaign tricks, nor my hard work ethic, nor the money that I raised, nor that I was the better liar, nor even that I was the better man.
Respectively, Sir/Ma’am, that is in short, my response.
