Last week’s LCRC meeting’s primary purpose was to approve the call for the proposed March 15, 2008 mass meeting. There was no quorum, so there was no vote. Why no quorum? Well, as usual most people got their notices late with no email notices sent to members. There also remain a lot of absentee members that probably have held on since the convention since there have been so few quorum meetings since the convention.Â
However, I also still see the overkill of secrecy that infects the committee once again having unintended consequences. If this last meeting was to approve the obviously already written mass meeting call, WHY NOT INCLUDE THAT CALL WITH THE MAILING??? How about a special notice about this in the mailing, or why not at least post the proposed call on the woefully out of date LCRC website? Maybe tonight’s (Thursday’s) meeting will have a quorum, maybe not – I’m certain more than a few of those who came out last week will be in no mood to show up again when so little extra effort could have turned out a quorum in the first place. We may just end up with no GOP committee in this county after the expiration of the current committee. Show up if you can to get this done.
On the chairman front, there are still no announced challengers to Glen Caroline, although the atypically late filing deadline of March 2 points to someone potentially waiting in the wings. Remember the ridiculously short time frame for filing for the county positions? In that case it seemed set up to discourage competition – in this instance it seems to be the opposite. I can’t wait to have open and engaged leadership to change the current downward spiral. We need change – now (actually months ago, but no use crying over spilled milk!).
UPDATE: Quorum achieved and call is passed! Ric James at Hooda Thunk has a good synopsis here. A crazy attempt to ammend the call to REMOVE THE PLEDGE was eventually ruled improper since the pledge is mandated by the state party plan. How convenient for these people – the pledge is absolutely neccessary (and indeed must be strengthened above and beyond RPV standards) but is disposable if allegedly liberal John McCain is the GOP Presidential nominee. Do the Puritans have any credibility left?

The March 15 Mass Meeting is already posted on the RPV website:

LI,
Good synopsis without hitting the Chief Puritan over the head with it.
You say ‘we need change – now’ well, at the national level, we’re about to get it in the form of either Hill & Bill or Obama.
As I’ve said before, I think Protic is a decent guy who is too busy to effectively run the committee himself. Those he relies on I don’t have such faith in, and this is yet another example.
Why were they afraid to put out the draft mass meeting call ahead of time, and instead pass it out on the spot and expect an immediate vote? This is the kind of secretive insider BS that has to be put to rest permanently if this committee is to remain viable.
LI,
I believe your ‘decent guy’ is passive agressive and is as instigative as the rest.
They do it their way because they don’t want you and I to have too much time scrutinizing the call. This is indeed BS.
Jose,
I know Paul personally. He is not an instigator.
Do I think he could have pulled the reigns on the shenanigans of a few Vice-chairs?? You bet.
And just tonight there was an improperly submitted motion, and someone else had to call it, because Paul did not. I will guarantee that it wasn’t because he supported the motion. It’s because he’s not a strong parlimentarian.
From the LCRC website:
Mass Meeting Saturday, March 15
Details and filing forms for the Mass Meeting will be available on this site on Friday, February 15.
The gal that spoke last night against the pledge certainly did not endure herself to the crowd. What she did was give an example of the kind of factless rhetoric that is an embarrassment to herself and the GOP. Fortunately there were very few that supported her stupidity. Now, on with doing the committee’s business in a fair and civil manner.
Jose…I concur. I went outside for a few…and missed most of it, but my understanding is that she didn’t even know parlimentary procedure. When she was corrected, it still went over her head. We’ve all seen this before when a member wanted to expel someone from the committee and wanted a show of hands.
It’s a little more complicated than that, and requires about two more steps before that point to even get there.
FYI: For those who don’t know, there will be NO pledges to sign at the primaries next Tuesday. That’s right, no Republican and no Democratic pledge will be required in order to vote.
Credibility? Are you kidding?
LM,
No pledges but you can bet your sweet bippie that the lists for each party will be available as they will be public—so it will be easy to see if say, Mike Farris votes for Obama.
That’s right, Jose, the poll books can be bought by the two parties and are public information. They won’t, however, be able to see which candidate Mr. Farris voted for, only that he voted for a Dem. Not that identifying the candidate matters, only that he voted for a Dem.
And don’t forget…there is a redemption clause that grants a one-time exception listed on the Party’s approved Call.
Jack Ryan used it!!!!!!!
I guess Ann Coulter would be a RINO in Loudoun County and ineleigible to participate in the mass meeting! I wonder if anyone will have access to the upcoming primary voter rolls prior to the March 15 LCRC mass meeting for people to make trouble with the lists.
