Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) Guilty

By VA Blogger

Neat-o gang.

Update: This is why they pay Chris Cillizza the big bucks: “Corruption Conviction of Sen. Stevens Enhances Democrats’ Prospects”

(I kid because I love.)

  • RichmondDem says:

The fact this scumbag never got primaries successfully says a lot about Alaska politics.

  • reston libertarian says:

mmmmmm corrupt politicians who have been in office so long they think they are infallible.

I’d say score one for the good guys, but I doubt Stevens will win, resign, and then allow Gov. Palin to select a successor. The senate becomes slightly more Democratic today.

  • Jose Kinusee says:

This guy needs to go. . . but I have my doubts. Remember this is the state where Staghorn Palin with her dufus husband are from.

  • P2P says:

Wouldnt be surprised if there is an appeal. There are/were some serious errors made in this trial. Judge’s comments to the prosecution and jury.

  • VA Blogger says:

Even if there weren’t errors, they’d appeal.

  • NovaConservative says:

I’ve seen this reaction from conservatives tonight—obviously Stevens is not exactly a favorite.

But I’m disappointed. The rule of law should mean something–and so should a fair and just trial. This wasn’t. I don’t care if you love or hate Ted Stevens, this verdict was absolutely ridiculous. There’s no way any reasonable, rational jury would have convicted, but there was shady stuff going on in this trial from day one.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this is tossed on appeal–and it should be. Of course, that won’t help Ted Stevens.

Finally–conservatives won’t think this is so funny when Democrats are cruising around with 60 seats.

  • t says:

We must keep this seat in pro-life hands.

Time to forgive, forget, and to propell Stevens back into office.

  • Anonymous says:

Senator Ted Stevens has been corrupt for a long time. I can’t believe it took this long to get him.

If he wins and then resigns, I think it goes to special election in Alaska. Miss “I didn’t do all this for naught” could not appoint herself.
