The leadership of the Virginia Senate Republican Caucus has sent out a letter to the RPV State Central Committee backing the effort to oust discredited Chairman Jeff Frederick.  Here’s the best line:

“An overwhelming majority of our Caucus has expressed grave concern over the state of affairs at the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV) in recent months and has lost confidence in Delegate Frederick’s leadership.”

What was that Doors song , The End ?
    This is the End…..

  2. Apparently not, Stone. He’s still kvetching and saying he’s going to have to be tossed out on his rear. He’ll need to learn this lesson the hard way. I’ve even heard he may show up at the AG debate tonight. Oh boy.

LI thank you for more original source information. If only the cabal in charge of ousting J. Fred would open the process for us all to see.

It continues to be embarassing that J. Fred. won’t even talk given the (beyond) critical mass of opposition that has arisen.

I wasn’t planning on going to the debate tonight (a debate won’t change my mind), if you can confirm J. Fred’s attendance I may go just to see if there are any fireworks.

  4. [...] Too Conservative has the letter available [...]

Considering all Frederick has done for your party, I sincerely hope you will reconsider and keep him on. If you give him a few more years he might be able to bring back the good old days of a solid Democratic South.

    Please keep Jeffie.

The real dagger for Frederick there is Obenshain’s signature

  7. notjfred

Lack of leadership. That sums it up. I cannot help but think that JFred has something else up his sleeve. He can get out now and save (some) face, but if he keeps going and digging this hole, he will be in China. Not that this would be a bad thing…

The actions over the past couple of days also show where Frederick’s loyalties lie. His removal from office would be the best thing to happen for the party at this moment in time. Evidence of this, looks at other comments on this blog and see how many are from liberals/Democrats saying that he should stay, paving a very nice path for Democrats to victory. Because he chooses to fight this, he is bringing down the party, himself, and Amy’s slim chances for a future. This is the same man that uses every opportunity to get his name out there. Come on, the art show? Something tells me he is not the person to appreciate a second grader’s painting. There are plenty of members of the press and baby kissing in that room for votes, not for the work.

Frederick’s fatal mistake was thinking that being the RPV Chairman would serve as a great launch pad for his career. Tell me a Chairman in the last decade that move has worked for…although Kate is a regular on the cable networks now.

  9. Lauren

Jeff was at the winter gala in Abingdon last Saturday night. I have a photo of he and Bob McDonnell talking. I would have loved to hear that conversation!

  10. Lovettsville Lady

Jeff DID show up at the debate. If there were fireworks, I missed them.

  11. Dan

    notjfred,

I am shocked that you think the comments of Democrats like myself who are supportive of Jeff Frederick are not sincerely meant to be helpful to your party.

Next you will tell me that the Republicans who kept insisting last year that we would be crazy not to nominate Clinton over Obama were insincere. I’m sure they had the best interests of the Democratic Party at heart and it had nothing to do with the wet dreams they were having over the prospect of running against Clinton.

Jeff Frederick is the funniest thing in Virginia politics this Spring. Let’s all open a beer and just enjoy the show.

  12. I bet Frederick wanted to speak and was told he couldn’t – why else would he make the trip but for a chance to try to redeem himself? He sat there working his Blackberry the whole debate with the ever present aide next to him doing the same thing. Of course, he’s a little too important to be expected to pay attention to the AG debate.

  13. Chip

Ah, the old “I have no friends so let me try to look really busy on my Blackberry” trick.

What a pathetic joke JF is.

I mean, seriously, by the time the Senate gets off its deliberative ass to denounce you it should be clear you are fairly universally reviled.

  14. Oh, and he left halfway through, with his assistant following.

  15. Looking to the Senate Republican Caucus as authorities on “the state of affairs at the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV)” is a little like looking to Barney Fag and Chris Dodd as authorities on “the state of affairs” in the mortgage lending industry: they know from whence they speak, since they caused most of those problems.

  16. crazyflower

He has an “assistant”? I can’t help but think of Kramer’s “intern” on Seinfeld when he started his company, “Kramerica”.

  17. Another Moderate

This letter is good news. I would like to challenge the “conservatives” such as Jo Ann Chase and Howie Lind etc… to argue that Mark Obenshain is just another moderate trying to remove Jeff. Mark was neutral in the Chairman’s race, and is a conservative stalwart.

    Jeff: Its time to go…

  18. rabble rouser

That little dipshit didn’t really attend the debate with all this going on with him, did he? What a prick.

  19. RichmondDem

This guy sounds like he needs some meds.

  20. Booger

James Young, surely you don’t think folks like Ken C. and Obenshain ’caused’ the Chairman’s problems?!?

  21. TC Robinson

I hope to god the rumors about Morgan Griffith trying to find twenty people to not support the ousting of the idiot Frederick aren’t true. Hopefully Mr. Majority Leader isn’t blind to the growing discontent towards our Chairman.

My problem is, I can’t seem to find a suitable replacement to vote for at the convention, where I’ll be a Chesterfield Delegate. I keep coming back to Sean Connaughton, someone who’s been out of the “system” for a while.

  22. Loudoun Watcher

#15. Well, aren’t you articulate and dignified? I would be certain to put credence to anything you had to say.

What I really mean is, why don’t you take your obnoxious and divisive comments elsewhere. Like the nearest men’s room in a ratty broken down gas station. You can’t be allowed to play with nice folks.

  23. Alter of Freedom

LOL about the Senate Caucus…glass houses and all maybe they ought to take some real hard looks at themselves these days in terms of leadership given they have aloowed Kaine to run ruff shot all over them. The “well he just is so popular” arguement is really tiresome from these Senators and what does it say that in the midst of one of the biggest economic crisis our State is facing they want to pick a fight over someone as inconsequential as Frederick?

  24. notjfred

Do not get me wrong, I am thoroughly enjoying the show that Frederick is providing for me. However, at what cost? With JFred at the helm, RPV gets shot in the foot at least once a week. We were not walking that well to begin with, let alone now.

I have pictures of Frederick at the Richmond Sarah Palin rally of him on his Blackberry seemingly busy. Apparently this is a common occurrence at large Virginia Republican events. I for one would like to know what his high score is now on what ever game he plays.

  25. He needs to go. ANYONE in any party leadership position would be better than him at this point. I stil think Anthony Bedell, who has really turned things around in Fairfax should take over – he’s earned it.

  26. mytwocents

Looks like Frederick might be planning an independent run for governor against McDonnell if he does not get his was on the SCC…..Trying to essentially force SCC to keep him so he does not go after McDonnell? Interesting strategy…..

    From the Post….http://voices.washingtonpost.com/virginiapolitics/2009/03/virginia_notebook_mcdonnell_ga.html#more

“Could Frederick envision his own independent bid this year? He is noncommittal: “Right now, I’m focused on making sure we elect Bob McDonnell as governor.”

I guess Fredericks support only comes with his job at RPV???? Sounds like that to me.

  27. What a frigging asshole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. some reason

What are we to interpret from this letter? Literally it tell us that Jeff is failing in his leadership abilities.
But what is the other possible meaning? That he is doing his job too well. Now just hear me out. Jeff came into the chairmanship a relative outsider to the inter workings of RPV. Outsiders are never welcome, and why? Let me give you a brief example, I work in the fire department and have seen this happen time and again. Administration member form bonds after working together overtime, they start doing each other favors, looking out for one another, don’t get me wrong camaraderie is good, but when looking out for our buddies becomes over looking, this is the rub. So what is a city manager to do with a lackadaisical department…..put in a Chief from outside. Someone to shake things up, force results and change on those who were to comfortable to make any. Next, like clockwork, the discontent subordinates of the new Chief begin to point out his every flaw, which is easy to do, especially when compared to his staff who has had no one keeping them account able till his arrival, and that is how they want to keep it. It doesn’t just sound possible, I have seen this exact scenario played out time and time again. So when a bunch of politicians get together and say :“We don’t like the boss you gave us”. I have a hard time believing it is because of their deep concern for the well fare of the grass roots.
Now lets understand the chief complaint of the day. Nothing against Allen, but this party was never quit the same after he was elected . He (wisely) pick out effective members from RPV to help run his cabinet, unfortunately those member former positions were not filled with effect personal. Next, state volunteer base (grass roots) were becoming asleep at the wheel of a second term Bush. All of a sudden the reality of Obama awoke many of our constituents and the thought of Sarah (an outsider) energized them like never before. They came to the party in droves and wanted to help, and what insured was nothing more then a lack of span of control and chain of command. The only ones to blame for that is the one who have been sitting in that committee the whole time! If Jeff actually is more incompetent then those who wish to oust him, I haven’t seen it yet. If he is, than let us be the ones to pick a new leader and not these guys, because you know they did not write their name to that letter with out already having someone in mind.

  29. mytwocents

You know you have major problems and your days as chairman are numbered when you have both Sen Obenshain and Sen Norment agreeing you are a horrible leader.

Add this to the fact the Washington Post is reporting that Frederick could be contemplating an independent bid against McDonnell. This will be the last straw for most.

  30. lauren

Were is the Washington Post reporting that? I can’t find it.

  31. lauren

Just found the article 2cents in the Post. Interesting!

  32. some reason – it really has little to do with his reception at RPV, it has everything to do with him constantly sticking his own foot in his mouth. Time and time and time again. It’s his own frigging fault! What is wrong with you people that you can’t see what a complete buffoon this guy is?

  33. Here’s Tim Craig’s article:

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/virginiapolitics/2009/03/virginia_notebook_mcdonnell_ga.html#more

Frederick is a narcissistic failure at RPV. I am also extremely disappointed in Bob Marshall for hoping in to defend Frederick. He isn’t being “railroaded” – he’s being shown the door because he’s an all-out embarrassment. See what these ridiculous conventions get us? We’re doomed in statewide elections until this crap comes to an end.

  34. Alter of Freedom

Frederick is the issue; no its Michael Steele, no wait its Ken Cuccinelli; come on its Sarah Palin; no its the influence of Rush Limbaugh…..and round and round nobody knows. This all points to one easy conclusion; the Party in the minds of supporters is leaderless with no one willing to take the reigns or no one that 51% of the supporters can get behind.
Still think you have “one” Republican Party? Interesting.

  35. Peter Elthorne

Has everyone seen Patricia Phillip’s spirited defense of Jeff Frederick on her 33rd Senate Campaign website at:

    http://www.patriciaphillips.org/news.php?id=4412

My reading is that Mrs. Phillips, together with Jo Anne Chase, are staunch Jeff Frederick disciples and we can learn a lot about them from that association.

  36. [...] I’ve been thinking as we have dealt with the ongoing saga of RPV chair Jeff Frederick  (1, 2, 3) as well as the RNC chair Michael Steele / talk show host Rush Limbaugh dustup that Pitts is [...]

  37. some reason

Loudon Insider-”Sticking his foot in his mouth” you must be talking about when he says to pro-life advocates that he supports their cause, and then behind close doors to pro-abortion advocates much the same. No wait, my mistake that was Hager. The Chairman the Central forced on us. And now they wish to remove a rightfully elected Chair, biased solely on intelligent allegations like “he is a buffoon“. Where are the petitions from the grass roots, where are the outcries from the Unit Chairs. Maybe he is a “buffoon” as you say but none the less the party is making progress in organization and technology, advancements which were not being made for as long as Central has been in power. James Madison- “The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted” Jeff was voted into power and with power should come so mistrust and scrutiny These people in Central are try to usurp Jeff’s power and the power of your vote. All of us should alarmed.

  38. Ben Richards

And don’t forget fundraising, Some Reason…the party is doing really well there too…er…oh wait…

    Never mind.

I wonder which of the remaining RPV staffers is posting as Some Reason.

At least one person (or salary anyway) at HQ had to go of course so that Fred-rick could be reimbursed his $30k.

  39. Sean O'Coulter

Peter, this is my favorite Phillips excerpt:

‘While I agree that the “Twitter” incident was a boneheaded and costly mistake, it was hardly an impeachable offense.’

Um, okay. Botching the GOP’s try at gaining power over the State Senate–and thereby, the entire General Assembly. No big.

From a woman RUNNING for State Senate!

  40. some reason

Wow! such undeniable logic, it was the “twitter incident” that lost us senate races. Not the moderate big spending Republicans who have blurred any definable difference between the two parties. And for your information I have never held a official position in RPV I am a professional firefighter in southeast va.

  41. Loudoun Watcher

I hear from Frederick supporters over and over on this and other blogs that the state has greatly advanced in organization and technology. Could someone give me some instances of this? I must be missing something. I know that he can’t raise money. I know that it took several months (and just a couple of days prior to the election) to get it up and running. I know that major donors have drifted away. I know his much touted Finance Chairman quit abruptly without leaving behind his much touted $100,000 donation to the party. There’s a lot more. Don’t be fooled.

  42. Ned Devine

But…but…but why would we need fundraising?!?

This is only the first election after the first time Virginia’s gone blue in 44 years! Surely the community-organizer-in-chief right next door in the WH won’t be able to build on his gains this cycle! Surely his grassroots organization isn’t still in place! Thank God for the “Virginia effect”!

So bring it on Tim Kaine! So what if you’re Obama’s BFF! So what if you’re leading the DNC! And for that matter, so what if Mark Warner’s machine didn’t break a sweat last fall! Bring it on Mark! And bring it on Terry McAuliffe! Who cares if you are going to spend 60 million to take Bob M. down! And all those nationwide D’s and union volunteers you’ll ship in…who cares?!?

    We’ve got Jeff Fredrick!

    We’ve got RPV Network!!!

  43. L.I.: You said: “See what these ridiculous conventions get us? We’re doomed in statewide elections until this crap comes to an end.”

The clear implication is that electing our Chairman at a Convention is the cause of our trouble.

As far as I know, both parties in every state of the Union elect their party Chairman at a state Convention. Can you name a single state where the party Chairman is not elected at a Convention?

How would you propose electing a Chairman if not at a Convention? A primary? Again, I don’t think any other state does that.

Or better yet, just let SCC elect the Chairman, since they’ll remove anyone they don’t like anyway.

  44. Upon some further Googling, there are some states who elect their Chairman through the state committee. I humbly correct myself. Looking for states that elect Chairs through primaries. L.I., still curious to know your preferred methos of electing the Chair.

  45. Lauren

I think its a great idea to let the SCC elect the chairman. They know a lot more about what is going on in the party statewide than most of us do.

  46. Alter of Freedom

It always comes back to abortion at the behind the doors affairs so it seems doesn’t it? Or maybe those are just alot more vocal than other interests; but given the fact that such an issue as abortion will be left for the courts and is hardly an issue that can readily be dealt with politically by elections at the State level; should we not be concentrating how to adequetely address the lives of Virginians today and impact their lives and families positively? Is not this what will redefine a new GOP in Virginia? I think McDonnell is off to a good start, but be weary of those who would lead him down the trappings of say Cooch or Frederick backed idealogues.
There is a reckoning coming in the GOP folks; the writing on the wall is not as clear yet, but there is a reckoning afoot that may take six to eight years but there is some backlash swelling against the far right of the Party and the control (some say stranglehood) they have on the convention. I for one as a potential delegate to the convention shall not be swayed by such idealogues who can see past their own agenda.

  47. Lauren — You know, the state Senate has a much better idea what’s going on in government statewide, so maybe they should elect the Governor.

  48. Lauren

Aaron- I think this is a little different but your point is valid. The point I am making is that many of us “grassroots” folks don’t really know whats going on behind closed doors in the RPV. I know whats going on locally and even regionally but don’t know a thing about whats going on in Richmond.

  49. I am sticking with Jeff because it is simply too early to go back to the “establishment” running the Party. They need to show us something.
Regards Jeff’s behavior, abrupt and abrasive and so on, that is Latino behavior. McDonnell and others need to understand and learn from their encounters wtih Jeff. His behavior is normal, perhaps even subdued, latino behavior. How can they “reach out” to the Latinos if they do not understand or appreciate their behaviors?

  50. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

The latest line of defense for abysmal failure J-Fred – The Latino Defense! Is he getting that from JoAnn Chase?

    Unbelievable.

  51. [...] Here not too Conservative TooConservative reports the state Senate Republicans don’t like Frederick.  That’s a surprise? [...]
