The Worst One Yet!

By Loudoun Insider

  Story here

Wow, after three high profile deaths in the last week (Ed McMahon, Farah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson), comes the one that hit me the hardest – Billy Mays, King of the Infomercial.  Of course I hate infomercials to a certain extent, but boy could Billy Mays pitch it!  There was something good natured and very likable about the guy.  His enthusiasm was infectious.  I always felt fired up after watching a Billy Mays performance.  He will be missed.

  • Leej says:

Cronkite is expected to go next and possibly any minute or day.

  • He seemed like a genuinely likeable guy too – he was just on Late Night the other night.

  • kelley in virginia says:

OMG, Walter Cronkite? yes, i know he is/was liberal, but he is/was an icon. when i was a child, I thought he was the absolute voice of news.

  • Cargosquid says:

It hit me that way too. Too bad. Lesson: When you feel bad after hitting your head, GO TO THE DOCTOR.

  • Loudoun Watcher says:

Agree on Billy. Also, nice layout on you and your beautiful bride, Brian. Happiness always!

  • RichmondDem says:

He seemed like a really good guy, a true self-made man from what I read about him. And the stuff he sold was actually pretty good for what it was! Don’t know where I would be without OxyClean.

  • Oxy Clean works, and works well. Awesome stuff from an awesome salesman! I’m still not over this.

  • Loudoun Lady says:

Oxy Clean carpet cleaner is great, and so was Billy Mays. I admit to being an infomercial junkie at times, esp when my kids were babies and waking up all the time. Nothing like falling asleep on the couch to an infomercial at 3 am and waking up at 6 am and it is on again (or still on???).

Also, Cronkite is an old man and lived a full life – Billy Mays died in his prime.

  • Steve Vaughan says:

Hmmm, the ShamWow guy better be careful.

  • Leej says:

His reality show on Discovery channel with that other info guy was really interesting, great look at behind the scenes and what works and does not in promoting products. Last show this wed I believe. I have never needed to use oxy clean, because I have a better cleaner NO SHOES IN THE HOME our carpets eight years later look brand new. And the occasional spot what I learned from the carpet people is to clean it with water first. Takes a bit longer but 9 out of 10 times it really does work.

  • rabble rouser says:

I’m trying to think whom on the Board of Supervisors or in Loudoun could replace Mays? I guess Buckley or Miller — ultimate used car salesmen!

  • Delgaudio is the only one with a hyper active enough personality! Buckley and Miller are way too low key.

  • rabble rouser says:

I forgot about Gerry Connolly, but he sells bullshit, not legit products!

  • Connolly has no personality – Billy had it in spades.

  • Leej says:

Coroner said Billy had heart disease!!!!

  • RichmondDem says:

Heart disease! Well he was really, REALLY Type A and a little overweight. Anyone know if he smoked?

  • edmundburkenator says:

“Mr. Reaper — for today and today only, I will offer you not one, not two, BUT THREE, new scythe sharperners. Share them with your friends, share them with your enemies, heck, don’t share them at all!”

  • Alter of Freedom says:

You know what is really crazy? The fact that 50’s are becoming the new 70’s…I mean look how many high profile people are passing away in the last few years while in their 50’s. Its nuts. People like Bernie Mack and others. Maybe its me, but it just seems to me that too many are leaving us way too early.

  • I should share my OxiClean success story – I had a jacket that ended up with melted pine sap on it after controlling a field fire working its way up a pine tree. I tried washing it several times with absolutely no luck whatsoever. Then I remembered we had a box of OxiClean. presto! The pine sap was totally gone with no damage whatsoever to the fabric. Absolutely amazing!

Billy always said he never pitched anything he didn’t use and personally approve of. He certainly left us way too early.

  • Leej says:

OK LI I can’t stand it any longer I am going to have to get some of this oxyiClean especially for clothes and does it work on furniture fabric?? What about car interiors?

  • If only Billy were around to tell you!

I have no clue, but it probably will work wonders on those items as well.

  • Damn, I am going to get me some Oxy Clean too.

Thanks for carrying the torch, LI.

  • Linda B says:

    Wow, very sweet, Brian! Congratulations!!

  • kelley in virginia says:

isn’t this a great thread? we are getting cleaning tips plus a little romance from brian.

  • Too funny!

I am doing a bit of a tribute to Billy with the sales pitch, but believe me, it works, or your money back!

  • G. Stone says:

His death is all that is required for the EPA to ban Oxy Clean. This stuff will be off the market in 6 months only to have the Government give the parent company a bail out in that OxyClean is simply too big to fail. President Hopey Changey has dispatched Timmy wheres my skate board Geithner to buy 50.99% of the Oxy stock with the hopes of using the company as collateral for all the money he is borrowing from the Chinese.
This plan is as plausible as the one Hopey is currently using. Hell, it’s more fiscally responsible than his plan.
