“We all know we’re in tough economic times. Families are tightening their budgets and determining what they can do without. Government needs to do the same.

I will create a permanent Efficiency Improvement Office…”

-Remarks by Creigh Deeds at George Mason University, August 21st

All around the Commonwealth, families are hiring consultants and bureaucrats to come in and show where they can trim a few extra dollars, and its high-time the government does the same. In order to combat waste and inefficiency in government, we need a new government department, with a director, a deputy, two assistants, and a research staff of eight.

No official word yet, but I’m hearing that to make things more efficient, every government action must be run through the Efficiency Improvement Office first to make sure no time is wasted.

  1. I don’t know where else to put this comment but trying to sign up for the rss feed was impossible. I got a bunch of error messages and then my computer froze up and I had to stop. Oh well, at least I can always just come here to read.

    Ha. Funny one.

Will Bob be any less ironic? Lets see….? Oh, yeah, Bob promises to name his LG as a “Chief Jobs Creation Officer.” Well, that makes sense. After all, that is what I had always seen done in my family when I was growing up.

I remember my dad, who was a salesman, lost his job way back around 1978 when the small business he worked for suddenly went under.

Did we panic? No, we did not, even though we lived paycheck to paycheck and he had hardly any savings, my dad knew exactly what to do.

Why, he just turned to me, just out of high school and only able to find a part-time job myself at minimum wage to help me struggle through at a state college, and said, “Aznew, son, I hereby name you my Chief Jobs Creation Offcier.”

As you can imagine, this solved all of our problems. NOT!

Anyway, the moral of this story, VA Blogger, is leave the comedy to the Progressives. You should be spending your time explaining why Bob is trying to pass himself off as a Moderate in this election and why he refuses to honestly discuss his record in the General Assembly of being anti-woman, anti-gay, anti-education and anti-economic growth.

aznew, I don’t think you are being fair to the Republicans. They have a keen sense of irony.
    .
Have you forgotten the “Clear Skies” initiative that weakened the Clean Air Act to allow for significantly fewer reductions of pollutants into the air we breath? Have you forgotten the “Patriot” Act? Always important to wrap yourself in the flag and beat your breast over how damned patriotic you are when you promote the craven and cowardly surrender of hard won liberties out of fear for physical safety. That was about the most abject surrender to the terrorists one could have ever imagined. Patriots my ass! (And yes, many Democrats voted for it. I have just as much contempt for them as the Republicans who supported that spineless piece of legislation.)
    .
These guys are deeply ironic. Sometimes unintentionally, but they are masters of irony.

  4. Aznew, I don’t get it; are you comparing Lt. Governor Bill Bolling to a “just out of high school”, minimum-wage earning kid? And McDonnell never led into naming that position with a story about how government needs to act more like families across the Commonwealth; Deeds did. That’s why my example works, and just like Creigh Deeds’ “solutions”, yours doesn’t.
    *
And from the looks of things, the only people asking about McDonnell’s so-called “makeover” are desperate liberals frantically waving their arms screaming “LOOK OVER HERE!” Most Virginians are looking to the candidates to offer detailed solutions on the economy, how to keep taxes low, and how to improve transportation. Unfortunately for them, there’s only one real option in the race: Bob McDonnell.

  5. Really, though, isn’t this typical of Democrats? Find a problem that exists, and think of a way that government can solve it.

  6. Cato the Elder

Actually, you know what would make for a good front page post VAB? Ask Creigh Deeds why he’s rattling his tin cup ove at the DailyKos, a far-left hate blog overflowing with anti-semitic filth and expressions of glee at US deaths in places like Iraq. Perhaps you should ask Creigh what he’s got against Jews and Veterans?

  7. NoVA Scout

Cato: I’ve never heard Deeds say anything against Jews or Veterans. There are issues worth talking about, this isn’t one of them . That kind of thing just makes our side look mean and stupid.

  8. Cato the Elder

Apparently you don’t recognize facetious snark when you read it. Of course it’s stupid. It’s equivalent to the libs demanding McDonnell answer questions about abortion.

  9. aznew

Cato – the logic behind the snark has me baffled.

Bob ought to come clean about abortiion because he is trying to pait himself as a moderate when his entire public career has been firmly in a fairly extreme position — opposing abortion in all circumstances except the life of the mother, a positon supported by only 16 or 17% of the public.

Creigh answering question as DK does not mean he condones or agrees with every harebrained thing written in a post or comment there. That’s some pretty juvenile stuff you’re pushing there.

I just don’t get it. Bob McDonnell used to be a proud Conservative, now he and his defenders in the blogosphgere seem to be shying away from that record. What’s up with that?

  10. Cato, why so angry lately?

  11. Aznew, you continue pushing this line, and I don’t understand it. You say Bob should “come clean”, yet his position on abortion is well-known and well-understood. Are you saying that he should talk about it more on the campaign trail? Is that because you believe that abortion is more important than the things McDonnell is talking about: jobs, the economy, and transportation?
    *
No one is shying away from his record, but there’s not really much more to say about it, especially with far, far more pressing things concerning the Commonwealth at this time. You should be asking what’s up with Creigh Deeds constantly talking about abortion when he has still yet to put forward a transportation plan.

  12. Loudoun Watcher

I’ve noticed that Aznew tries to turn every blog into a rant about Bob coming clean on his abortion stance. Since Bob didn’t rise to the bait from Deeds, I guess ole Creigh sent out his minions to try to beat that drum for him.

    Pretty transparent, I must say.

  13. And as Cato indicated… The slob running backwards of 10 points doesn’t get to to set any agendas.
Mr. Deeds had better step up his game on Jobs and transportation….or he’s as guilty as Dems in Congress of looking past the message that the voters are giving them.
I knew a couple of years ago that the ‘ol “we know better what’s good for you – better than even you do” crap wasn’t going to go over well. This is just the beginning. Republicans are the answer in all the latest polling on exactly who “the people” trust with the economy more….They may just well do better in November of 2010 than even I suspected. If Obama stays on this destructive and far-reaching erosion of Constitutional Rights and multi-tiered stimulus after multi-tiered stimulus…each doing nothing for the folks…but fattening more pork spending with each roll out…2012 could be a slam-dunk, too

  14. NoVA Scout

I like LW’s avatar. BPM’s is pretty imposing too, but that’s just because he’s an imposing guy. I think it would be cool if he could get a kevlar monk’s habit.

Cato – political discourse is so childish these days that I don’t much care for anything falsely implying anti-semitism or anti-veteranism, even under the cover of snarkiness.

  15. Alter of Freedom

Yeah. I guess am supposed to fill guilty for an assocation with Blackwater Worldwide when it was OUR government who asked for the company to assist in locating and dealing with extremists that threatened our interests. Have our interests changed today? Not only did Blackwater succeed through force protection of such leaders from Iraq, but also our Senators (Obama and Clinton included) as well as McCain and many other elected officials as well as non-elected State and Defense Department folks. I love how the left again is trying to make waves about a private company being contracted to above all things help with the hunt….let alone since the beginning they have offered rewards for pricvate citizens to locate and turnover extremists. I guess they they have forgotten about the whole deck of cards things!!!

  16. Moi

I think you have a typo in the title:
“Creigh Deeds To Make Virginia More Ironic”

    I believe you meant:
“Creigh Deeds To Make Virginia More Moronic”

  17. The last time I heard a democrat talking about increasing government efficiency, he said that he would go “line by line” through the budget “with a scalpel” and cut everything that wasn’t working.
    .
Now, that same Democrat just revised the official deficit projections for the next ten years to $9 trillion. That’s up from $7.2 trillion. And that’s not debt, that’s just the budget deficit.
    .
If we can’t trust Barack Obama, the leader of the Democratic Party, why should we just Creigh Deeds? And why does he need a permanent office to do the work that the Governor and the General Assembly should be doing full time anyway?

  18. Alter…I don’t know where that came from…but I’m with you on the liberal’s bastardization of an entity who stepped up and brought what they promised to .
(I may be partial…that’s my ‘ol gig.)

  19. You know, Scout…a couple of us were discussing that over brews last week.

  20. This is not a blog I enjoy writing, most blogs I have written I truly enjoyed doing. This is a sad story of the sad state of affairs that our politicians are presenting to us. Bob McDonnell who is running for Governor of the State of Virginia and who was the Attorney General before, and Senator Ken Cuccinelli of Fairfax Virginia who is running for Attorney General of Virginia, and Bill Bolling who is the Lt. Governor of Virginia have all three kicked Catherine Crabill under the Republican bus, I can only imagine that Catherine Crabill. now knows how Sarah Palin feels. These three politicians stated to the Washington Post that they have disavowed themselves from Catherine Crabill, a mom who is running for the 99th District of Virginias Delegate seat on the Republican ticket.
I went to a Town Hall like forum in Warsaw Virginia today and Lt. Governor Bolling was there, I was amazed at how these politicians continue to feed us rhetoric that has gotten them in this mess. Mr. Bolling talked on how he and Bob McDonnell want to bring jobs to the Northern Neck, and then cannot answer simple questions on how the State and the Counties are hurting businesses with all of their red tape and bureaucracy that they create on permits. Business is thwarted on signage and taxes, and he had no real answers there, this man is just sucking us dry by using our tax dollars to pay him. Then he has the gall to defend his actions of disavowing himself from Catherine Crabill who is running for Delegate in the 99th District. When I asked him if he wanted the Democrat Pollard to win he stated he stood by his statement to the Washington Post, I pressed him again for an answer on Pollard and again he stated he stood on his position with the Washington Post, which tells me that this RHINO wants the Democrat to win.
I urge all Tea Party members to find people to run for office, the time of voting for the lesser of two evils has to stop. How can we gain control of Washington and our State government if we keep electing career politicians to office? We need to end Bob McDonnell’s career and Ken Cuccinelli’s career and Bill Bolling’s career, after this election. This should be the last time any of them get elected to any public office, they do not believe that we have the power to vote them out; if they did they would not have disavowed themselves from a Tea Party member who is running for office. Catherine Crabill made some bold statements, but she was not trying to incite people to take up arms, like they are saying. It is funny how an angry mom running for office, which cannot be bought by special interest groups and will not play the political game the Party wants her to play, is being trashed for a statement made at a Tea Party rally. When we have people like Conyers saying things like they expect us to read the bills before we vote on them, and Pelosi calling us Nazis, Reid calling us evil mongers, what is going on? Instead of disavowing Catherine Crabill, why are they not asking why Congress is not investigating people like Conyers who admit that he doesn’t read the bills before he votes on them?
The Republican Party is spineless and we need to take it back, so I am urging all Tea Party members to think about running for office, and look for leaders in your community, your church and your social organizations, we need integrity back in the offices that serve us. We need to clean house on both sides of the table.

  21. Loudoun Watcher,
It is a sign of desperation. Aznews has nothing in the economic policy arena to offer. Deeds is more socially conservative than Moran or McCauliff. So? That was enough to beat a carpet bagger and an idiot in a VA primary.

It is not enough to beat the Republican candidate who actually has some policy making experience, and a record to run on. So, out comes the abortion card in the hope of spinning up the NOW/NARAL base; hear them roar?

  22. Alter of Freedom

Monk- its the latest talking point being imployed in Washington media circles this week to deflect from the devastating politcial blows Obama is taking over HC. They are playing up the “civilian contractor” evil and the torture issue is rearing its head again…how timely right? Just when the liberals going around playing their corporate propaganda playbook against firms like the old Blackwater they also intend to use the same tact against insurance companies. Again, liberals always have to have a villain.
BTW isn’t interesting there is a new MOS designation in the US Army; Internment/Retention Specialist being rolled out…..ummmm I do not recall having that in the Bush years coming out of DOD?

  23. Alter of Freedom

Mistakenly the MOS designation newly created is actually Internment/Resettlement Specialist….what in thw world could this be for I wonder if we truly do not plan on continueing the war on terror in the same manner? Could it be we plan on closing GITMO in 2010 and bringing those folks here within our borders but not in our prison system or our military prison system but plan to create something entirely diiferent for them….its begs the question just what actaully is up with this does it not???? LOQ
