The big winners are Glen Caroline and Tag Greason.  Caroline kept together an often fractuous LCRC with his constant focus on nuts and bolts.  But what would you expect from a grassroots professional?  He was a firm and consistent leader with a single minded focus on winning Loudoun for his party’s candidates.  He and his leadership team did a GREAT job.  McDonnell did better in Loudoun than he did statewide, and now every one of five HOD districts that touch Loudoun County are in GOP hands.  Although there are a few who will certainly continue to bitch and complain, nobody can argue with the results produced by Glen Caroline.

greason

Tag Greason obliterated David Poisson by 15 points.  This is the only Loudoun HOD district completely within Loudoun, so Greason gets the big star.  Incumbents May, Rust, and Marshall held on and Jim LeMunyon beat Chuck Caputo, and they are all winners as well of course.  But Greason was very active in the LCRC and endured horrible personal attacks from the Dems.  That he crushed Poisson so bad makes him a rising star in the GOP.

bucholz.photo

As far as losers go, I have to put the counterparts to my winners above at the top of the list.  Tim Bucholz will probably be shown the door as LCDC Chair.  He and his team performed miserably.  Sure they were working against a red tide to a certain extent, but they were absolutely out worked and out maneuvered.  A truly horrible performance.

poissonandfeder

Speaking of horrible, that describes Poisson’s stealth sleaze campaign against Greason.  His half-hearted denunciations were cheap window dressing that voters saw through and discarded, just like they discarded Poisson.  Greason’s soccer mom base was already behind his run, but those mailers fired them up to new heights and they delivered a major kick in the groin to Poisson and Ward Armstrong.  As I mentioned before, Poisson earned that “Poison” nickname this time.

miller&kaine

Stevens Miller is also a big loser, renting his house out and renting one himself to try to skip out of the Board of Supervisors.  He loses with his Dulles District constituents for his attempted personal bailout, as well as with nearly all of his fellow BOS colleagues, for his veiled insults and political stunts from the dais.  All that to get beat by 8 points.  Does he finally understand that he was elected on an electoral Snow removal push, and not because of his own perceived popularity?

  1. How old is that picture of Glen? He had hair!!

The picture of Poisson with his crooked tie is weird, maybe it’s because I’ve never seen him smile before and it is freaking me out. IF you call that a smile.

    Loudoun Lady

  2. That was from an interview he did with a local paper when he took the reigns as LCRC Chair, so it isn’t that long ago. I think he’s just shaving it a bit closer these days, although I’m sure being LCRC Chairman makes one lose a few hairs as well!

I never had a huge problem with Poisson until this election cycle. He’s done in politics. That photo of him and Feder is priceless.

    Loudoun Insider

  3. Glen is bald by choice (shaving), he has a nice head for it.

Judy Feder freaks me out too, and maybe the look on Poisson’s face is because she is looking at him with her googly eyes.

    Loudoun Lady

  4. Glen shaves to streamline his direction to “get-r-done” grassroots.
The direction he gave, the intense focus on what (above all else) was most important, and his firm (yet friendly)conviction for results …all yeilded for better than the rest of the pack results in Loudoun in 2008 (against the tidal wave) as well as 2009, when Loudoun went WAAAAYYY over the top, as compared to our fellow counties.

  5. The Poisson loss was a big surprise for the Dems and probably a bigger surprise for Poisson himself. 14 points is pretty significant. And there had been talk about a potential congressional run against Wolf in 2010 or 2012. There was a Roll Call article mentioning it about 6 months ago. Following Tuesday’s election, wonder where this leaves him. Does he try to make a comeback in the 32nd in 2 years, abandon the state delegate thing and try the congressional run, or does he just exit politics all together? Will be interesting to see where he lands…

  6. Glen Caroline is a first class Chairman, and he should be running the state party when Chairman Mullin’s term is up! He certainly has my vote.

    Anthony Bedell (FCRC Chairman)

  7. You have hit the nail on the head, LI. Every one of your profiles is right on the mark. The LCRC is not going to rest on its laurels, though. We have a lot of work to do in the months ahead, to set up a scenario where we can get rid of Yucko Miller and his band of merry Democrats. Under the current leadership of the LCRC, that WILL happen.

And next year, we will re-elect our superb Congressman Frank Wolf.

    Loudoun Watcher

  8. Results ! Glen delivered. He is focused and should be commended. It is my hope this leadership team stays intact and focuses on the important tasks for 2010 and beyond. It is the LCRC that will have to bring about focus, energy and ideas regarding LOCO’s fiscal mess. The grown ups in the room will have to step up and provide the needed leadership, candidates and ideas to usher in some fiscal responsibility. If there is any doubt that message will not sell , I give you the election of just 4 days ago as evidence that voters are listening.

    G. Stone

  9. Loudoun Watcher, I expect you are right about Wolf’s re-election. I sure wouldn’t bet against it.
    .
In 2012, redistricting will cause the 10th to be more compact because of population growth and more Democratic because it will likely lose areas to the west. Also, Obama will be at the top of the ticket that year. Do you think Wolf will retire at that point? If so, who do you think might be the likely candidates for the seat?
    .
Idle speculation much too early on, I know. But what are political blogs for?

  10. “…….they delivered a major kick in the groin to Poisson and Ward Armstrong.”

Yes they did, I can think of no pair better deserving of a good swift kick to the crotch.

This being the best thing you have written in some time needs to be re-read.
Poisson will now be forever known as the Loudoun County Sleaze.

  12. Obama and that Bucholtz guy brought some “Change” to Loudoun alright! Changed it from blue to red real quick!!!!!!!

  13. For some reason our spam filter keeps holding up legitimate comments. If anyone is following sequentially, go back and read through all of them.

Anthony Bedell praises Glen Caroline, but he absolutely deserves the same praise. Either one of these up and comers would make a great future RPV Chairman.

    Loudoun Insider

  14. I appreciate the kind words of support for my Chairmanship. But I would be remiss if I didn’t point out again, that I stood on the shoulders of many great men and women who did most of the heavy lifting and deserve a lion’s share of the credit.

I was proud to be a small part of this team effort, but in the end, it was no one individual or candidate who delivered, it was our GOP TEAM!

    Glen Caroline

  15. Nice of you to say, Glenn, but the fact is that we would not have had this level of success with either your predecessor or the former RPV chair at the helm.

    Lloyd the Idiot

  16. LI,
Awesome post, one of your very best. It’s so great to have you back. It’s also great to have a leader like Glen and honorable candidates like Tag Greason and Tom Rust. I am so proud to live in Loudoun county among all of you fine folks. I hit the jackpot when I moved to Loudoun county.

    Lovettsville Lady

  17. Anthony Bedell, I am will to help out with the Fimian Campaign, I think you see quite a few Loudouners ready and will to lend a hand.

Thanks for all your hard work, your leadership and your committee were outstanding!

    Loudoun Lady

  18. I’m all for helping to boot the noxious Gerry Connolly out of office, but none of us in Loudoun can forget about our own wonderful Frank Wolf! I know, I know, he’s a shoo-in, but we can’t take anything for granted.

    Loudoun Insider

  19. I just looked at the official results at the SBE website, and Greason won by a little over 15 percentage points, so I updated the post.

Speaking of Wolf, that photo of Poisson and Feder is pretty damn funny. Back then Feder was looking to Poisson for help. Now she would run away from him screaming! I still say we all start a Run Judy Run campaign to get her back for one more try against Wolf!

  20. Hey Monk another losing battle you are fighting.

    http://www.leesburg2day.com/articles/2009/11/06/news/9998path110609.txt

Even tho I am against this power line your battle the way you are fighting it is worthless.

    Sorry for the off topic.

    Leej

  21. Why must you keep pointing out just how clueless you are???
The SCC staff has recommended that they withdraw their application.
The PSC had told them they had 30 days to refile. That ended on October 9th without a refile from them. And there is a huge lawsuit in Md. againsat them.
At last word, they’d folded their tents up and packed it in for another 9 months, dumbass.
There is another hearing on the 19th of the month, and I have right around 250 folks lined up to deliver testimony against them.
    Please get out more.

    The Bulletproof Monk

  22. Glen, we were organized and exceptional on our drive. As cogs inevitably dropped out of the mechanism, they were quickly replaced, and the machine continued on smoothly all day long. We owe you a debt of gratitude for putting every single cog in place, so that they , in turn, could drive other gears…and so on.
Mr. Bedell, I’m of the opinion that you OR Glen will make an excellent State Chair when the time is right. Fairfax came online under your direction, and if we can just keep the momentum going, I see that fire spreading thru every Committee. It will be contagious.

Thank you all for your undeniable influence.

    The Bulletproof Monk

  23. Lee, I’m not fighting tRaIL.
I’m much more concerned with PATH. It appears that they were about to be dismissed outright, and that they quickly reformed and asked for a 217 day delay.

    http://calhounpowerline.wordpress.com/2009/11/04/aepallegheny-ask-for-217-delay-in-wv-psc-case/

I’m still investigating my testimony that PATH is actually on the table to reward a power reseller located in Barbados, and who doesn’t even pay American taxes.

    The Bulletproof Monk

  24. Monk and I am serious, I hope you all beat them and beat them badly. The power companies are out of control anymore. Anything I can do to help let me know.

    Leej

  25. Appreciate the offer. More speakers lining up with valid points about the lack of the need for the lines would help. We need to demonstrate that PATH is only attempting to move forward in an attempt to sell coal that has no customers in WV and OH to NJ, and that they were backed by Dominion and the power reseller group in Barbados in an attempt for those entites to profit from the sale of electricity to NJ.
A plethora of problems evolve from this effort. NJ power usage has plummeted since the use of alternatives in NJ has risen. Allegheny’s figures for projected need are therefore simply fabrications. They know it, but ignore them, because those figures stand in the way of some serious money.
Add to this that the PATH line will end up putting 14% return back to them every year, and they get giddy just thinking about it.

Allegheny has tried to hold “canned” meetings at every venue…attempting to silence their critics and notebly avoiding giving their opponents any equal presentation time, even at “public” meetings.

The next testimony will be occurring on the 19th of October in Lovettsville at the Community Center. I need more folks to speak out against this. I can arrange for people to be brought up to speed so that they understand exactly what the situation is.

    The Bulletproof Monk

  26. Can’t wait to see Millers next move. What is the statute of limitations for carpetbaggers these days? Will he be back in Ashburn for Dec. 1 or was the lease for 1 year. Would be great question for the next BOS meeting (if he attends).

    Billy Bob

  27. Why is this thread being hijacked by power line stuff? That’s a whole different issue–and its much more complicated than either of the rather simplistic points of view expressed here.

In any event, Glen Caroline does deserve a ton of credit for what’s happened in Loudoun. In a political organization, you of course are always going to have various personalities who are not “with” the program and are going to cause problems, but this year there was very little of that–everyone was focused and had their eye on the prize. Glen Caroline deserves credit for that.

There are a lot of people who worked hard–and that does include some folks who were more closely associated with the last “regime,” but who chose to be team players and help the cause. If you were involved you know who I’m talking about, and they deserve credit as well.

    NovaConservative

  28. It’s being hijacked because LeeJ must find, bother, and annoy The Monk on every thread. No one knows why, but everyone finds it annoying and wishes he would stop.

    Lovettsville Lady

  29. Novacon, I know there were elements of the last “regime”, and I noted who carried their weight with dignity. Those that did have a land bridge with me.
The Johnny one-notes who sat around and did nothing were noted as well.

    The Bulletproof Monk

  30. “rather simplistic points of view expressed here”
You depend on Dominion for a check in some demented way, don’t you? My points are all well researched and will withstand scrutiny in Richmond in January (if we’re even still holding that testimony in light of PATH’s recent decision)

    The Bulletproof Monk

  31. Good Analysis Vinnie. Let me remind you though that Mr. Buchholz was well regarded after they won all those elections in 2007 and 2008. The writing was on the wall though during the Obama campaign that Buchholz time had come. He was without a job working on Obama and then got a new job which kept him pretty busy. I’ve heard many of the Dems were unhappy with him and thought he should have resigned at the end of 2008 and let someone with more time take over. Glen will befall the same fate within the next two years if he stays put. If he is smart, he will move into position as a candidate somewhere or shoot for a higher level State Party spot. Otherwise, the same fate will fall on him that is sure to fall on Buchholz. He will be joining Beres in the “has been” club. If they elect Bob Moses in his place, we will be even better off than we are now. He is a bigger loser than Buchholz and Berez. The truth is, they don’t have much chances in any of the future Loudoun elections. They can’t even do well in Fairfax anymore.

    jackblack

  32. “Glen will befall the same fate within the next two years if he stays put.”
    Oh, ye of dismal faith.
Move along if that’s what you think. The movement STARTED in Loudoun, and it’s catching fire EVERYWHERE else. They only need to look at the actions of Caroline and Bedell for inspiration. And if they truly possess the motivational fortitude of these two men, they’ll start to win elections, too.
We “won” in 2008, too. Loudoun LCRC GOTV efforts held Obama Biden back 6 points in this county.

    The Bulletproof Monk

  33. JackBlack,

Buchholz was NOT the chair in 2007 when they won the BOS, it was Beres. Buchholz did not come in until Jan. of 2008. So he was only chair for the Obama election. His real test came this year, and…uh… let’s just say if you compare the two Chairs Glenn comes out on top. No question there.

  34. A ton of the heavy-lifting in Loudoun was done by Glen’s Precinct Operations Chair, Tom Seeman. This guy is organized, dedicated, passionate, hard-working and really gets it. He put in more hours than anyone else this cycle. He deserves a ton of the credit and all of our thanks.

    Sibyl Says

  35. Ditto on Tom. I’ll stop there though because so many people kicked butt at the LCRC, but Glen and Tom deserve high praise.

    Loudoun Lady

  36. Tom Seeman put in more time and energy than anyone on the LCRC. Tom worked 24/7 to make sure our game day operations went as planned. This guy was everywhere doing everything, he deserves high praise for his hard work. Thanks Tom

  37. I concur. I think I owe the man a beer when I see him next!!

    The Bulletproof Monk

  38. AGREED! Tom Seeman is an incredible asset to Loudoun, and our Party. He is smart, organized, energetic, kind, supportive, always ready to help, really an amazing man, and I concur with the comments above: THANK YOU! Great job!
