Chatter is growing among activists in Virginia concerning the race to replace Senator Cuccinelli.
Democrats seem poised to support Del. Dave Marsden, but other floated names include Janet Oleszek and Lou Ann McNabb. While there are those who to point to Ms. Oleszek’s slim loss in 2007 as a sign she should not be the Dem. nominee, I would counter that….Janet has the most current and up to date lists in the entire district. Her natural ties are to the district, and in a low-turnout special election I believe she’d be able to galvanize the Democratic base, and her friends out to the polls.
On the GOP side it’s a fight. Marianna Horinko has hired some good staff, and I know from past experiences that Steve Hunt is a fighter. Will Nance seems to be a fantastic candidate, but will he have enough time to run a race about the issues, while his opponents are able to string together special interest coalitions? The firehouse primary next weekend is sure to be interesting….
We should also take note that a Marsden victory means we will have a Delegate Kerry Bolognese. Kerry lost by a hair to Marsden last week, and would be the favorite to replace Del. Marsden.
UPDATE:Steve Hunt has an impressive list of endorsements.

Question:
I know some have suggested that Caputo should move to run, and have heard others say he would not do that.
If Marsden moves to run, would Caputo have to move to replace Marsden vs. Bolognese?

on November 10th, 2009Caputo???!!! He’s done! Put a fork in him.
It looks like this will be a three way race to see who is the most conservative. They better be careful they don’t go too far down the social conservative road – that’s not what won last week.. Nance actually has an endorsement from Rick Santorum listed on his website. Ugh.

on November 10th, 2009Marianne’s kickoff tonight had over 90 attendees. She’s got great ties to the neighbhoorhood through sports, kids, and church. I hope she’s our next great senator from Fairfax!

on November 11th, 2009Marianne had a wonderful turnout to last night’s event with at least 90+ attendees. She understands the issues for the 37th district–the economy, transportation and education!

on November 11th, 2009Jim Rich endorsed Steve?! That’s pretty amazing considering Steve’s positions on the issues pretty much parallel Ken’s and Jim Rich is anathema to Ken.

on November 11th, 2009If Steve managed to get endorsements from that ideologically diverse a group of party activists without anyone losing an eye or a limb in the process, that’s a pretty damn fine accomplishment so far as uniting the party is concerned.
I’d take either Will Nance or Steve Hunt, personally.

on November 12th, 2009Take a look at Caputo’s good-bye letter in Leesburg Today. He was all smiles, no action. Glad he’s out.
As for Cuccinelli’s seat, the GOP needs women in office so Horninko get’s my vote, despite having a last name that many Dem bloggers will have a field day with.
