This is just getting confusing. Marsden is now sending out mailers to the 37th District attacking Governor-elect Bob McDonnell, continuing the failed Creigh Deeds attack (remember their illegal signs?) that McDonnell and the GOP will gut public schools. Marsden is now claiming to be a leading voice to stand up against McDonnell, just days after pledging to be an ally in the fight against taxes and the size of government.
What’s odder is that Marsden’s mailer was sent to a very broad list; this mailer was sent to the house of a very conservative household (you’d think they’d take off households that voted in the firehouse primary). Even if Marsden is trying to rally a base that’s understandably very apprehensive, he now risks alienating the vast majority of voters who cast a ballot for McDonnell, who carried the 37th with more than 56% of the vote.
So one day Marsden is a conservative centrist; the next he’s leading the charge against a conservative administration. Kind of reminiscent of how one day Marsden was a Republican activist (working to elect Ken Cuccinelli, no less), and the next day he’s a Democratic candidate. And he still hasn’t said a word about the largest political issue of the month: Tim Kaine’s massive tax hike.
It seems like there’s no fence too large to straddle, no issue too important to flip-flop on, no principle too sacred to sacrifice for political opportunism for Dave Marsden. The result: a schizophrenic campaign, from a carpetbagger no less. It’s amazing to think that this is the best the Democrats could come up with.

LI, you may want to rethink that endorsement of Myers for Superintendant…
lol
woops, clicked on courthouse article, yet somehow posted here!
Marsden can’t tell whether he’s coming or going. This isn’t even a race at this point. He’s just throwing everything within arms reach at the wall hoping something will stick.
Because I figure someone reading this will know — would Democrats have any reason to know who voted in the recent Republican firehouse primary? (or vice versa, were the situation switched.) I mean, I know that when we vote in a general primary, a record is kept (and distributed to each party) of our casting a vote (but not how we voted.) But does that sort of information distribution include firehouse primaries as well? And how long would that information take to be disseminated? (Swiftness of information and access to it not always being the strength of either party!!)
We have a very dynamic and competent candidate in Dave Marsden. I think he has a good chance of winning this race.
Mr. Marsden could significantly improve his chances of winning if he would speak publicly about a few key ideas about the real problems that we face, such as:
Jobs are our number one priority: We can’t tax-incentive our way to prosperity. Mr. Marsden needs to discuss rebuilding, our manufacturing base by directly negotiating with businesses who sell goods here in Virginia. We need to take the approach that existing manufacturers must help attract suppliers here, and those who want access to our markets need to develop local manufacturing.
Gun Rights: Private gun sales are legal and that is the law, as it should be. Mr. Marsden needs to explain that talk of “gun show loopholes” are nonsense and alarmist, since no significant crime happens due to private gun sales.
Education is important, but the education bureaucracy, along with “public safety” must be subject to the same rigorous, bottom-up review and targeted cuts and all of the other agencies. There is plenty of blubber in the aforementioned departments and neither should be treated as sacred cows.
I don’t think anyone has ever before confused Marsden for someone who is “dynamic”. And Marsden would be able to speak more genuinely about those issues, and others, if he actually did something about them in Richmond as a Delegate. Like when he says he wants to cut taxes after he supported tax hikes (and hasn’t taken a position on Kaine’s budget).
I hope Marsden continues to follow the Creigh Deeds playbook!

FAIRFAX – Democratic candidate for the Virginia Senate, Dave Marsden, who sometimes rents a room in the 37th District, is using direct mail communication with voters to complain about the excesses of the Virginia General Assembly, despite Marsden’s own current status as a member of the House of Delegates. Marsden has served as the Delegate from the 41st House district since 2006.
The following quotes are from selected Marsden direct mail pieces that have landed in voters’ mailboxes:
“In 57 years, I’ve seen a lot in Fairfax County. But I’ve never seen anything like what’s happening today…”
“Dave Marsden will get Richmond back to work on the things that matter to us. From traffic to taxes – Richmond isn’t getting it done.”
“Out traffic problem isn’t going away if Richmond keeps ignoring it.”
“Higher taxes … More traffic … School cuts. We don’t have to take it from Richmond anymore.”
“Dave Marsden has a simple message for Richmond: Get to work on things that matter.”
“Dave has lived in Fairfax County for 57 years and he’s tired of watching Richmond waste our money while cutting funding for schools, ignoring our traffic problem, and tilting the playing field against small businesses.”
“Send a message to Richmond … from the people of Fairfax.”
“Help Dave Marsden send a message to Richmond: Stop ignoring the needs of Fairfax County.”
“You know, Dave Marsden makes a pretty effective case: keep him away from Richmond, because he’s clearly part of the problem, if he’s describing everything accurately,” said Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Pat Mullins. “How can you possibly run as an outsider, when you are an incumbent member of the General Assembly? Clearly, Dave Marsden is trying to confuse the voters to the point where they are just as baffled as he is.”
