Partly due to the distaste much of the current Board of Supervisors has for them, and partly due to their own inaction. Many business leaders had big problems with the barely passed energy plan but basically sat on their rears when they had an opportunity to do something about it. There were some feeble comments at the public hearing, but most ran out of time to make any criticisms after they spent most of their two minutes saying how eco-conscious they are. Now Loudoun Business has an article up posted last week saying how concerned many business leaders are over how the energy plan process was pushed through. And this week a letter is published in Leesburg Today saying much the same.
I heard from several sources that many in the business community feel so shut out by this BOS that they saw making their concerns known on this to be a futile effort not worth their time and energy. I may see their point to a certain extent, but then why bitch about it afterwards? The time to weigh in on this substantively and forcefully was BEFORE the vote. But that didn’t happen and now they’re mounting a concerted PR effort to complain. Too little, too late, folks.
I really wonder if this is just part of a bigger scheme to let the current BOS hang itself with bad process and bad policies. Then these business leaders will throw in behind a new alternative slate. Well, I’m sure that’s going to happen anyway, but I don’t want to see them scheming too much. If they think this will give them carte blanche to try to elect another pro-business (reading to many as “pro-development”) gang like the last one, they will be sorely disappointed. As much as this BOS has problems, no one is ready for another gang of obnoxious blowhards ready to bow to their every whim. Can’t we just find a decent middle ground here?
I have stated it before and will repeat it again. I am a very conservation minded conservative and believe in energy conservation and sound land use policies. But this Board has run roughshod over established procedural standards in a quest for enacting their agenda at all costs. Compromise is out the door and items that should have passed nearly unanimously are eeking by in divisive votes. Many of the new slim majority bitched up a storm when the last BOS pulled these stunts, now they’re doing the same exact thing. They are sullying their cause in a quest for personal glory and are ensuring that the next swing of the political pendulum will deliver them a swift kick in the rear. It’s a pitiful sight to behold.

The problem is these same business leaders and developers need this BOS for another two years to hopefully get things passed especially rezoning 28 that right now is visually polluted and a eyesore. So naturally they are not going to rock the boat headed by the most dangerous to business is McGimsey of the dangerous 5 which include Miller, Burk, Burton and Kurtz. And the budget meeting Miller held a few weeks ago that I attended was so bad on his part that he is totally clueless on what to do except bow to Hatrick and the school board and raise taxes . Miller said the most calls he gets is from parents that don’t want anything cut from the school budget. Miller will never ever get re-elected or get elected to anything ever again.
I have to admit Delgaudio said at the BOS meeting the day after the energy vote and broke into a loud and long laugh at McGimsey who said many of the developers called her and thanked her for get Loudoun a energy policy.
Delgaudio, then said are you serious McGimsey that those developers like you??? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha They just need you for the next two years to hopefully get their new proposals approved. Then these developers will do everything possible to get rid of the dangerous five in the next election.
BTW Lerner’s new mixed use proposal at the dulles town center calls for a ton of residential that will be a family magnet with tons of kids by design just like the new approved fairfield development at shellhorn and the greenway and waxpool which is another family mannet with tons of kids. Kincora’s residential is designed for singles and married without children. The dangerous five need to take a course on residential design and learn what developments are designed for children and the ones that are not like Kincora. What a bunch of dumb bunnies this BOS dangerous five are and some are on huge ego trip especially Miller and McGimsey. They need to go in the next election.
I’m no huge Miller fan, lee, but I don’t think Miller is a fan of Hatrick at all. He’s rocked Hatrick’s boat plenty. He’s probably still stung from his defeat by Rust, which he was so certain he was going to win. He may even blame the teachers for helping defeat him since the VEA endorsed Rust. He may be trying to patch up his standing with them by taking their side in the upcoming budget battle. Who knows.
I still think we need a county-wide downzoning for residential. It is so painfully obvious now that we have outgrown our ability to pay for educating all these kids. I am a fan of mixed use, but it should be by special exception with sufficient mitigation. Making such mixed use development more geared towards singles and retirees is also recommended.
But instead of tackling the still massive residential growth potential in this county, something that would really make a difference long term environmentally and fiscally, the current majority is pissing away their political capital on hospitality training and an amorphous energy plan. Brilliant.
LC Chamber of Commerce is indeed too little, to late. These comments may have held sway on Dec 17 (if my memory serves me) at the input session on this energy plan.

Plus, While LI is bringing this to the attention of TC readers, the timing of the process and now the timing of the LTE’s is all but lost to the public. It would be nice if the LC Chamber would go beyond the LTE, can they file something formal to the BOS?
Yeah, the LTEs now seem a little odd. Were they just not paying attention before the vote?
Tony Howard DID represent the opposition of the Chamber at that input meeting…as strongly as he could–without getting obnoxious.
I don’t know if the special meeting they had qualified as the last chance to reconsider, or whether that opportunity is still open this coming week, but my bet is that the noise is designed to perhaps help prevent any budgeting toward actually getting the government equipment in place to implement the raft of policies contained in the “strategy”.
Do recall Marcia de Garmo at the podium, not only urging them to pass it, but stressing that it was meaningless if they didn’t have the will to fund it and hire staff.
If the nonsense can be held to simply getting the grant, and kept out of “the worst budget in the history of the planet!!!!”, then any noise and awareness can perhaps ensure business and citizen involvement in where these bogus “strategies” go.
That was all McGimsey ever wanted for “the people” she lied about being paid to lobby on behalf of (kind of like the moonbats who sue for civil rights for dolphins, great apes, and some parrots). A seat at the table, a voice in the process, TRANSPARENCY OHHHHH boohoohoohoohooo!
Most people didn’t even know it was happening, and a new year begins.
Let’s see if some lobbying pops up for a new department in the budget.
When Marcia DeGarmo tells most of these supervisors when to jump, they quickly ask how high and how often. If she wants this position filled so bad she and her pals can foot the bill for it.
The Loudoun Chamber Board has positioned itself as little more than a social club and networking group. Their leadership is fearful of ticking-off the electeds and therefore falls short on this an many other serious business issues.
LI – the business community realizes going to the Board is a huge waste of time and they are right. Do you honestly think someone like McGimsey would change their mind? The business leaders would rather spend their time with family and friends instead of grovelling to a bunch of petty do-nothings. The enviro-statist crowd will never stop — it will take a local tea party movement to get the business community back in business…
