They decide to start with a 5% INCREASE in the budget and work down from there to some unknown point. And spend most of their time talking about the less that 30% of the budget taken up by the entire county government outside of the school system. As clueless as Hatrick and his minions. We all know where any substantial cuts must come from, but the BOS majority obviously quakes in their boots when thinking of the Hatrick Hordes. Ridiculous. Taxpayers are doomed.
UPDATE: Below the Beltway has a GREAT post up about NJ Gov. Christie telling it like it is in regard to school funding. Can we get him down here to knock a few heads???

I’ve got news for the supervisors – the budget outlook isn’t going to be any better next year. Or the one after that. You have to start taking on LCPS sometime, people.
The jail situation seems to be a no-brainer, why would we continue to pay for housing of inmates outside the county and overtime for Deputies? I can’t imagine the savings would be even worth debating.
*
And the Libraries? I am at our library about twice a week and it is always packed, people lined up and waiting for the computers, civil groups in the meeting rooms, kids at story time, students in the cubicles studying. Libraries are used by EVERYONE, particularly those looking for work that don’t have computers.
*
Every county service at the expense of the LCPS – it is very sad.
Agreed, LL.
.
Here’s some more info on the school budget:

There is NO leadership. There will be NO leadership until the current Democrats are shown the door.
Stoner, I assume you are including Delgaudio and Waters in your statement.
(BTW, I found and purchased Clapton’s book, as you noted I am having a hard time putting it down)
The entire Board needs to go, maybe we can elect candidates with some business experience and common sense next time…
Sure BO, the Republicans are going to lead with their 2 vote minority. And I’ll be the first to admit the last “Republican” led BOS did nothing to curb Hatrick’s appetite for cash. But Waters and Delgaudio have been consistent on cutting government spending.
LI I expected you to defend Waters. I really was asking Stoner.
BO I could care less who you’re asking, and of course I would expect you to react to the contrary to anything regarding Waters. I’m even defending Delgaudio in this respect, who I’ve never been a big fan of. We need a few more supervisors willing to make the difficult cuts that need to be made.
Now now Stoner, Buckley says that’s not the kind of partisan rhetoric the citizens of this county deserve!
Waters and Delgaudio voted against the budgets the last 2 years after seeking further cuts. I’d like to thank them publicly!
Waters also proposed $100M school in Ashburn we didnt need in her attempt to force kids from Ashburn Farm to Briar Woods — I dont think the Ashburn Farm residents are too high on Waters these days, but who knows….
Oh – and Waters forced us to spend $52 million in road bonds for her developer whore buddies at One Loudoun…
Michael, you’re a real douchebag! Maybe you and BO can go out on a date sometime!
.
That school will be needed, it’s just a matter of when and where. And no one forced anyone to issue road bonds they were put up for a vote and passed with a large margin. I’d rather not spend money on either one, but it is what it is.
From Leesburg article: “While Loudoun’s low regional ranking in per pupil spending and teacher salaries were noted again, so were the high “output” statistics, including the high on-time graduation rate, the low drop-out rate and SAT scores. But members of the School Board, while proud of those figures, said they did not want them used to show how the school system is doing perfectly well with lowered funding. Even some members of the Board of Supervisors agreed with that notion.”
They are trying to keep it secret that they do more with less so that citizens won’t start saying asking questions? Too bad the press was there.
That whole article was embarrassing, from Buckley’s request to build a smaller temporary HS (WTH?) to Kelly Burke not wanting to reference per pupil costs as a measure? Unbelievable!
The road bonds barely passed…and would not have passed if there was any effort to educate the community about what the vote was for….as for the school, stop and talk to some Ashburn Farm residents and see how they feel about the whole thing, it is a much different take than you opine about…is Monk still looking for those extra white boards, I thought they would have been found by now…
As stated in my post below, Burk should have nothing to do with such discussions or votes. But that doesn’t seem to matter to this BOS.
.
OK Michael, so much for sticking to attacking the Dems, huh? And people can read those bond issues on the ballot – this isn’t an area with a high rate of illiteracy, you excluded of course. Glad you let your hatred of Waters take over the problem you should have with a Hatrick employee discussing and voting on school matters.
Michael you are officially banned from driving route 7 when those not one but two bridges are built. There is another bridge if the property ever gets out of litigation at ashburn village dr AND RT 7 bought and paid for by one loudoun. And that bridge is ready to go and should of been the same time frame in construction as the LCP one. You will either have to drive the extremely over crowded waxpool which Miller has done nothing about. And god help us if they build schools there. There are bettter sites such as getting Kincora to proffer a bit of their site for a school. Or Lerner at the Dulles town center which would be a perfect place for a high school as the kids then can walk to the mall hahaha.
Lori’s part of the county looks the best and has most of the ED. Of course Cliff and McG’s architect will do everything in their power to make sure Kincora does not happen perhaps because it is in Lori’s district ha ha ha ha Their bosses certainly don’t want it or the extremely important road connections. I am sure Cliff and McG’s architect will come up with a million dumb ideas why it should not be approved just like Cliff did the opposite with the hospital. ha ha ha ha ha ha
All I can say expect much higher taxes the next two years and the Republicans should be lining up candidates for the next BOS election right now. Put the pressure on this BOS make them all feel like Buckley already ranting about the next election.
Thank God Lee respects our mutual agreement not to comment on our respective individual blog comments. I respect him for that.
.
Maybe Cliff should ask for the same arrangement.
Damn LI, it is absolutely impossible for you to hear criticism directed at Waters without lashing out. I know one thing if I want an abusive salty language response from you all one has to do is disagree or point out one of Waters stupid decisions and we’re sure to hear that colorful potty mouth of yours. I do give you creativity points by including Delgaudio as top cover. Interesting approach to equate the two.
.
Good points Michael.
BO, as much as I admire her, you despise her. Michael had unfair criticisms in my opinion. Isn’t it time for you to accuse her of bribery again?
I never accused her of bribery.
.
Michael correctly points out that she has a very low appreciation level in Ashburn Farm. She caused that not Michael or myself. Nor is it limited to the two of us. That is a fair and a valid observation.
BO once in the public eye all bets are off, and you can bet I will be watching hime like a hawk just like I did on the hospital. Just like I will be watching all the PC because there is only two very major mixed use coming up Kincora and Lerners Dulles town Center Mixed use, both are vital to our ED. Kincora has fantasic proffers and I have not see anything decent form the Dulles development. The metro mixed use at 28 and the dulles toll road is on hold because of some complicated litigation. The rezoning of rt 28 is also important. Leesburg villge although on a smaller scale is built and filling up fast including the URBAN housing that does not attract families. Kettler also built a bridge over rt 7 as part of that development. Cliff just like the other PC will be called on every dumb reason why something can’t be done.
Michael must be Jack Shockey, posting from the Bahamas. He’s still miffed that Loudoun booted the whores and left Waters in place. Looks like ‘ol Jack would just shut his pie hole and enjoy spending Hazeltine’s money down there.
The two Republicans on the board are the only grown ups in the room. They have both put forth sound suggestions on spending cuts and budget reforms. However their whopping 2 votes are mere speed bumps on the road to increased tax rate hikes.
.I told the bord this at the recent public sessions. 24 months ago the tax rate in LC was 1.14 if this board raises the rate as requested by LC staff from the current 1.245 to 1.40 they will have raised the rate 1% per month over the 2 buget cycles. This is how they handle a near fiscal crisis by raising the tax rate 1% every 30 days. Further, they managed to ruduce the 200 million $ deficit by a mere 8 million and that was with Federal “stimilus ” money. The deficit now sits at 192m. I told them the FY 2011 was going to be worse than the fy2010 and it is.FY 2012 is going to be even uglier than 2011.With this knowledge they keep doing the exact same thing expecting a different outcome. They have a spending problem.
Dean, that is a profoundly ugly and stupid thing to say.
Mrs. Shockey was a lady, and is no longer here to defend herself.
If Michael is who I think he is, Jack he is not.
It’s always easy to toss around the “whore” tag, but it is a diversion as tired as your theatrics.
Lets not forget the 15M and 6M per year Waters voted against on the HCA vote as the EDC Chair (not to mention the millions in other deals VW, AOL, Hilton, that biotech company…we lost with her as EDC)….and her corporate gift of 4M per year to HHMI…wayfinder signs for the west, she even voted to give the Salahis 136,500 of our money. I could continue all night, but I think you are getting the picture. BPM and LI can scream and cry all they want, I point out some reasons why we are at 1.41 and the trail at times leads to his beloved Supervisor. These are not attacks, these are facts. You are the one trying to paint her as a fiscal conservative and that it is everyone else’s fault that we are in this mess. I have pointed out 10’s of millions she has cost us and think they all need to go.
You’re right, Michael, how could I have been so stupid? Lori Waters is exactly the reason why our county budget is ut of control, dumbass.
What the potty mouth there LI.
.
Stoner you and others constantly forget the full equation on taxes. It ain’t just about the tax rate! The bottom line is the amount of taxes we pay. You should know this, you got a tax cut last year.
BO, The tax rate proposed and being discussed by the county administrator is a 10% tax dollar increase. Read the leesburg 2day article above – it outlines the whole history.
*
Tax increases in a recession are stupid, our BOS doesn’t have a clue save 2 lonely fiscally restrained republicans. I’m sorry you don’t like that, but it is the truth. Look at the idiotic quotes from Buckley and Burke – these women should be ashamed of themselves.
LL, I think you’ve been taking math lessons from the Monk. First we need to learn how to add, then we learn multiplication. It’s a process.
BO, the problem this year is that many people’s assessments have gone up significantly while at the same time the BOS is proposing a stiff increase in the rate. It’s ridiculous.
BO – Your argument would be valid if the tax rate was adjusted downward to the equalization rate when property values were soaring, but it never was nor will it be when values start to rise again, therefore an increase in the tax rate is a tax increase. The Democrats are not just raising the tax rate to keep taxes flat, either. By jacking the rate up 44 cents in 3 years, they will have raised the average tax bill by nearly $600! Good luck running for reelection with a record like that!
LI, that maybe a true statement, but when people start to make trend statements they are mis-representing past years. Last year fifty percent of us saw a decrease and 50% saw an increase. It was a flat year. I am not doubting things look grim, nor am I arguing that we don’t need to control spending, what I am harping on is let’s ALL be realistic and work the issue. Making stuff up for an argument doesn’t help either cause. We need to debate what is cut and what is not cut, and what are the subsequent consequences.
.
It does no one any good to argue that tax rates are going up year after year or if tax rates are “flat”. Then we end up discussing the math, which doesn’t help. We need to be discussing specifics, which some have brought up. If it’s just about lower taxes, lower taxes, etc etc. it sounds like a cliche or political talking points. It’s shallow and people tune it out. Those talking to the board yelling only to drop the tax rate are being marginalized.
I didn’t watch the whole board meeting, but I heard only MILLER wanted to start at the 0% baseline. He could not get a second, even from either of the Republicans.
Maybe someone who watched the whole thing can clarify.
BO, Look at the county administrator’s estimates and stop with the petty “learn to add” retorts. Maybe if you were better educated on the matter you’d be able to respond properly.
Cliff, it might well be worth watching–I heard that after Burton got the ball rolling with the discussion of 5%, it was McGimsey who made a motion for 0%, which, when it was seconded by Delgaudion, she then withdrew.
Too funny, if true–can’t be seen as working with Eugene?
The Board should be talking about a 5% cut, not increase…why cant the two R supervisors get the ball rolling with this? One motion, the other second it…I think this may start to highlight which Supervisor wants to cut and which ones want to spend (not an expert in RRoO)…LI – just trying to hold ALL Supervisors accountable, not just the ones I dont like…
