As the General Assembly wraps up its final work this week on the budget, the leadership of both the House of Delegates and the Senate have declared they will need at least one extra day to get the budget finalized and passed. The House, under Republican leadership, has agreed to forgo it’s usual $135 per diem. This is a smart move, especially with the General Assembly asking state services and all of our citizens to do more with less. It shows that the Republicans in the House “get it.”
.
So of course the Senate would do the same, right? That would just be good politics, wouldn’t it?
.
Of course not. They’re Democrats.
.
When asked by the Washington Post if the Senate would take its per diem, Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw of Fairfax remarked, “Of course. Why not? We’re here in session.” Talk about tone deaf. Apparently, getting that $169 for today’s extra day of work is more important to him than keeping costs down or making a statement that in this environment, everyone should do more with less. The $6,760 extra spent on Senators meals and hotel rooms could have gone towards one of the many programs the Democrats claim the Governor is gutting.
.
Mr. Majority Leader, you just pushed through almost $100 million in new “fees” on the entire Commonwealth. Cut the taxpayers a break and work for one day without your bonus pay.
.
I am not happy with these additional fees, and would love to see a gubernatorial veto on the budget, but I recognize that this is probably the best we can do with a Democratic Senate. While both the House and the Governor found ways to close the budget gap without raising taxes or fees, the journey we’ve come from Tim Kaine’s 17% tax hike is pretty significant. If this is the best deal we can get from the Democrats in the Senate, it’s the best we can do. If anything, this demonstrates the need for us to win back the Senate in 2011.

If the House and or Gov don’t veto/fix, there might not be a November for the Republicans. We do not have to “settle.” Elections have cnsequences.
i keep reading that gerry connolly is a must-have vote for Pelosi on healthcare. do any of you know someone who can talk to him? isn’t he losing to Fimian in the polls? does he get the correlation?
go to patriotroom.com for list of those Y, N & on the fence. there are some that we can call.
this is it, let your fingers do the walking!
Kelley, he’s losing to just about everyone in the polls right now. Fimian, Herrity, and probably my cat.
.
Pelosi doesn’t have the votes to pass Obamacare, and it’s going to take some serious logrolling for her to get there.
brian: are you damn sure? because I haven’t slept well in a year worrying about this. and Brian, either of my cats would make a better Congressman.
“Pelosi doesn’t have the votes to pass Obamacare”

I’d take the other side of that bet, and give you 3:2 odds.
I’m just going by what I’m hearing. Clyburn is saying he doesn’t have the votes. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gI9vyfvCnXmpztSiFtdbmIPngauwD9EEE7180
.
I’m hoping that’s accurate.
What does it matter with Connelly? He is a hack, POS, dipshit lackey. If Nannny Pelosi ask Gerry Connelly for his vote – he gives it. That’s what makes him so dangerous. Connelly is a yet vote on healthcare – end of story.
LL, and you complained about being called names. Geez!
This isn’t a Dems/Repubs thing. It’s a Senate/House thing. The Senate always insists on collecting every dime it’s technically due, no matter which party is in charge.

BO, Yes I did complain. You equate calling someone a POS and a dipshit with the C word? Next time you and your wife get in a fight, call her that and see how she acts.
