As I noted last night, I had the chance to meet Michael “Spike” Williams last night at the Herrity for Congress kickoff event. We had a good conversation, and our wives got along well. Spike’s hard work in Hunter Mill is well known throughout the FCRC, and I am confident he’ll be a great choice.
.
I’m especially pleased, given the 2nd amendment record of his opponent, Sen. Mark Herring. As noted over on Virginia Virtucon, Herring voted against many of the pro-gun bills that were addressed during the General Assembly, including the guns in restaurants bill.
.
I’m looking forward to seeing Spike pull of a victory in the 33rd next fall.

No guns in restaurants?
.
How could I possibly enjoy a meal without a warm gun tucked in nice and cozy? The horrors! What are these politicians thinking?
.
Our state is facing serious issues and all the GOP has is guns, and da gheys.
Protecting the Constitutional rights of our citizens is one of the governments #1 priorities.
Nice to see some buzz on Williams. I’ve met him a few times before. Very solid family man and looks to be a great choice for the 33rd. He should be a great choice for Conservatives concerned with the direction of local politics.
Go Spike!
he is not running ON guns he simply is NOT running away from his core beliefs while highlighting the short falls and poor voting record of a potential political opponent.
Mr. Williams does not really stand a chance unless he moves into Loudoun County and joins the LCRC. And, even then, he faces a real uphill fight.
As I recall from history, Ms. Volpe is the current chairman of the 33rd Senate Committee through this December and she will be undoubtedly be appointed by LCRC Chairman Mark Sell to the Loudoun seat on this two person committee.
As such, Mr. Williams should anticipate that Chairman Volpe will do everything in her power to bolster the sucess of Patricia Phillips in winning the GOP nomination.
Mr. Williams, you are in for one helleva ride. Brace yourself.
After what just transpired in the LCRC elections, do you guys really think that Patricia Phillips is going down in a firehouse primary or convention?
Doubtful.
If the Party is smart she will…
Before we start blogging over who is the better candidate, Ms. Phillips or Mr. Williams, I would ask if anybody has information about what the shape of the 33rd will be? Either or both candidates may not reside in the 33rd after redistricting.
Good point. This “campaign” is premature. Let’s focus on getting Frank Wolf reelected and Gerry Connelly defeated first.
Squash the Toad!

Any idea who the democrats might put up against Frank? Judy again?
To NoVa Con’s point, the method of selection could play a major factor. Has it been decided yet whether it’s a firehouse primary, regular primary or convention?
Here, Spike. Come here! Good dog, good dog. He has no chance…
RR, you really are an ass.
BPM: once again, you nailed it!
RR- Id worry about your own race if I were you and stop making fun of other candidates.
What everyone is failing to acknowledge are the other 6 or so people who are lining up to run for this seat too…
Well, here’s hoping you all nominate the tea tea tea Partiest candidate possible. No boring RINOs please. That is so boring.
.
Remember, extremism in the promotion of nuttiness is no vice. It is a good show.
Correct. The number of candidates and new district lines makes speculation about this race a bit premature. It will interesting.
BTW. I have met Spike , he is a very nice guy and would be a vast improvement over the current occupant of this State Senate Seat. Whoever wins the primary will have a tough battle. Dems will fight hard to retain the only state seat they have left in Loudoun.
Could Chairman Volpe call for the 33rd Republican Senate nomination to be a party canvass set for the parking lot outside of Patricia Philips’ church just after a regularly-scheduled Sunday service?
Not to put ideas into Ms. Volpe’s head, but I think the answer to that question is yes.
Good to see a new face running in the 33rd. But why are you telling me to vote for someone whose site is down? For example, what is Mr. Williams’ view on illegal aliens, Cooch’s promised lawsuit against the ObamaCare insurance madnate, etc? You can’t just say “he’s for Republican principles” because that’s an oxymoron. I don’t want to vote for a retread from 4 years ago in a primary, however I don’t take opinions from others based on blind faith in LI, Joe, G.Stone or anyone.
Competition is good. May the best candidate win the primary and beat Red Herring in the general.
Spike seems like a nice guy, but only earning 16% of the vote in his own district last election cycle is a little troubling, regardless of the number of candidates. Not to mention I have no idea where he stands on the issues, at least not yet?
Why don’t you all aim your criticisms at Mark Herring? He’s done nothing for the better part of 4 years, now he has a new shiny website, has held a series of townhalls in Dec and Jan with Tag Greason and Tom Rust – which he never attempted before. His voting record this past session on all 2A related bills was abyssmal and he generally doesn’t care for input from his constituents. Mark is a bit on the run, and he should be.

It’d be great to get a series of posts on what a poor job Herring has been doing since 2006, so when the time comes we will have a body of information. I agree on beating the evil toad Gery Connelly, but in the meantime let’s have some fun and beat up on Herring. He deserves it.
Where’s Mick Staton?
Thanks LL – that was kind of the point of this post. To note how bad Herring has been.
Michael, what does your record look like? How bad did YOU lose?
Personally, I think Herrring will be tough to beat. He may not have the voting record on gun issues that some Republicans want, but he’s not appearing as an over-the-top liberal. Indeed, he’ll seem more middle-of-the-road given his appointment by McDonnell to one of his advisory committees. Republicans CANNOT nominate an extremist and expect to beat him.
BPM – if Spike is hanging around your type he probably won’t earn my support. When are you going to run for office Monk? You claim to be the kingmaker in town, why not king yourself big shot?
Answer the question, big boy. How bad did Lori Waters kick your ass?
And everyone knows that the truest power lies behind the throne….
You do, too. If you forget who you answer to, just give the throne a call.
You do have your dad’s number memorized, don’t you?
So…. Michael is Jack Ryan? What a sneak. But he and his cronies are all sneaks. They think power lies in the LCRC now, so they snuck back in by signing a pledge they don’t intend to honor, just as they did in the past.
