500x330.aspxAccording to the Washington Post, Gov. McDonnell has just announced a restoration of $750,000 in funds to the Department of Minerals, Mining and Energy (DMME) for mine safety inspections  – money that was slated for cuts under Tim Kaine’s budget proposal late last year.

.

I’m glad to see the Governor do this, as we have all seen the damage that can occur when mines aren’t safe. It’s unfortunate that even with mandated federal and state inspections, coal mining is still one of the most dangerous jobs in America.

.

Now, here’s a fun guessing game – if this were a Democratic blog, what do you think the headline of this story would have been?  Whoever comes closest to what’s in my brain wins a cookie.

How about “Right Wing McDonnell Overturns Another Kaine Environmental Protection Through Secret Pork For Unsafe Coal”?

  2. That’s a pretty good one. I was looking for something a little more emotional.

I like them all, but they’re still missing something about racist “teabaggers” and the rape of the environment by continuing to subsidize coal.

Hope to see the Governor/Attorney General do something about this ASAP.

Guess he missed this bit about McDonnell restoring the funds that Kaine cut.

I would add Neo Confederate Slave Master.

  12. Of course he did. That doesn’t fit into his storyline that Republicans are in the pocket of Massey Energy and complicit in killing miners.

Hypocrite: Pro-corporation, Anti-government, Anti-middle class, Anti-spending Republican Governor relies on government and government spending to punish the worst mining company in the universe, and ensure mine safety.

But don’t you dare suggest that the government should assist with health care… Socialist.

Or is that too long for a headline?

  15. That’s pretty good M.

Here’s what I was thinking the headline would be on a Democratic blog “McDonnell acknowledges complicity in the deaths of miners by sheepishly restoring $750,000 in mine safety cuts to his budget.”
    .
And if we ran this blog like a Democratic blog, I could have made this the headline: “Tim Kaine wants miners dead – cut $750,000 from mine safety budget.”
    .
    But, fortunately, we have class.

  16. Or maybe: Mcdonnell scrabbles to restore funding after Obama calls for higher safety standards
