So I say I’m taking some time off from blogging, but a couple days in the office and a couple interesting developments suck me right back in (hopefully temporarily, then back to summer vacation!).
Lloyd makes an interesting observation about Dick Black and his FaceBook page and something on that page just jumped up and slapped me across the face. Dick Black likes Mel Gibson! As stated in the title, this really doesn’t surprise me. Here’s some of Mel’s latest thoughts on women and blacks (don’t listen if you’re sensitive to foul language – I’m looking at you Willie!). If only these damn women would stay at home and wear burkas we wouldn’t have these kinds of problems in our society!

LI, You are way off base here. Clearly Mr. Black has “Braveheart” the movie listed and not Mel Gibson personally. Braveheart the movie is also one of my favorite – so do you think I want women in burkas?
As for Lloyd’s “Observation” – wow. Yes, he is running for office. He also happens to know a lot of people. I know people that have 1000’s of friends – so what?

I am really not surprised that Dick Black would be a MG fan. MG has made a lot of good movies, Braveheart being one of his best. Let’s not forget The Patriot, We Where Soldiers (the book was better), What Women Want (didn’t actually see it but seems appropriate to include in this list), Lethal Weapon, Mad Max, and of course, The Passion of Christ.

I also think that Dick Black can understand where MG is coming from on MG’s views about woman and their submissive role to man. Now I am not saying he condones the verbal abuse or the vulgar deliver of the MG tapes, but I do believe he thinks a woman should know her place and stay there. If you strip out the MG shock script, underlying it is a view Dick Black most likely supports.

Dick Black is the epitomy of what is wrong with the LCRC. That he has somehow risen from the political graveyard to be the new elder statesman of the LCRC does not bode well for it in the upcoming general election. If the people who back him had a lick of common sense they would abandon this old guard and recruit more palatable candidates like Lori Waters, who hold true conservative values but can broaden the appeal beyond the inner party faithful. But nahh, they would rather spend their time trying to get rid of people like that.
Barbara, I believe Mel’s ex-wife came forward and said he never laid a glove on her. I don’t doubt that the current one feels threatened by him, but I don’t think it is an established fact that Mel beats women.

As a side note one of the next biggest projects up for approval this fall is Lerners new town center by the dulles mall. I want to make this perfectly clear Lerners must build a interchange at countryside and rt 7. Now one of our planning commissioners told me the Lerners have built all the roads they intend to build up front and the county does not want to condemn land to build this interchange. Well they don’t have to. I have designed a interchange that would actually work for that intersection without condemning land. They got blood out of Kincora rightly so. Now the BOS must not go easy on the Lerners and get almost nothing in proffers. On blogs like this and other blogs there should be an outright war to get serious proffers for this new town center as the Lerners can well afford it. Don’t let them get away with murder like they did with the nationals baseball stadium where they ruined the original design.

(he’s running don’t say he isn’t) Besides what he is being criticized for is stuff he demonstrated when he was a public official. He deserves every bit of criticism he gets. He’s earned the attention. In fact, I think he relishes it as it energizes his Brigade and his fund-raising.

I am not defaming anyone – please! What did I make up about him? I simply repeated the fact that he likes Mel Gibson, and shared some of Mel Gibson’s rantings. Dick Black didn’t say those things and I have no idea how he feels about them. But from my experience with these Christianists, many of them do believe women should be sheltered in the home. If I were a politician, I think the wise thing to do would be to remove Mel Gibson from my likes on Facebook. Mel Gibson has been going down a looney path for several years now.

Observer….where do I hold a position in the LCRC since March 2010? I’m no longer the GOTV point man. And it’s my job to get republicans elected to office, and not laughed out of the district. Furthermore- following Fimian’s fantastic lead on smearing his opponent prior to the primary — I can openly criticise anyone I feel like criticising prior to that primary.

The police officer was a public official and public figure–my point is, just because someone is a public official or figure does not mean you can say things about them that are untrue. Liking Mel Gibson in Braveheart (which even some famous religious leaders like John Elderidge have clips of Braveheart on their websites) doe not translate into liking what Mel Gibson said on tape to his wife, or to what he has said as a private individual. In my opinion it is untrue to say that because someone likes Mel Gibson the actor, they agree with Mel Gibson, the private citizen’s statements.

Pointing out a specific fact that is not true, in your opinion, is one thing, but… well, that is not what you have done… and the Courts have been coming down pretty hard on even political speech that defames people– I also sent LI a court case a while ago, where a judge shut down a website that was anti- a particular candidate, and subpoenaed the anonymous author(s)..
