Please, no more, four is plenty.

I think it is a great site – I like the time ticker. Mark Davis also has a facebook page.

  • Not Davis Again says:

Mark Davis is a fine man, but he was terrible last time against Simpson, who totally cleaned his clock. No thanks Mark.

  • The desired end result is to win, right?

  • Loudoun Insider says:

I’m not terribly familiar with Davis, but I looked up the results from 2003 when he ran, and he came in fourth place. I don’t think he’s going to light Loudoun County on fire.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Oh, and he ran as an Independent, so that should turn off a ton of Republican loyalists.

  • LloydTheIdiot says:

Below is the text of an email he sent out announcing his candidacy. He should probably take Liz Miller’s advice on proofreading. There aren’t any typos that I noticed, but capitalization is off (my pet peeve), and the language is too simplistic even for this idiot. Substantively, he covers a lot of ground, though he makes reference to “gangs and immigration” as a problem, not “illegal” immigration. Also, is driving-and-texting a really big issue in the sheriff’s race?

Mark Davis for Loudoun County Sheriff
Kick Off Event on January 18th

Kicking Off my Campaign for Sheriff

    Tuesday, January 18
    5:30 – 7:30 PM
Tuscarora Mill (in the Wine Cellar)
    Leesburg, VA

    Dear Friends,

I want to let you know that I am running for the Republican nomination for Sheriff of Loudoun County and I need your help. I have 29 years of local law enforcement experience, 23 years with our own Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and 6 years with the Leesburg Police Department.

I am the only candidate that has the experience in ALL areas of the Sheriffs’ office.

I am the only candidate that has the experience in the Constitutional areas and has actually worked with our Loudoun County Constitutional officers.

Morale is at an all time low and the deputies are desperately looking for a change in leadership. Citizens as well as deputies are unhappy with the direction the Sheriff’s office is going.

I know what the duties and responsibilities of the Sheriff are. Being Sheriff is more than just a title, it is good management led by an individual with integrity, honesty, passion and dedication, which is why I have decided to run.

Gangs and Immigration are on everyone’s mind. I have an aggressive gang program that targets gangs and their members. As Sheriff, I will work with our State and Local law makers as well as Senators and Congressmen to deal with the Immigration issue and see that it is dealt with aggressively and fairly.

I will work with the Board of Supervisors on the Sheriff’s Office budget to see that Public Safety get’s it’s fair share of the financial resources so services to the citizens that they need and deserve can be provided.

I will work hard to see “No talking or texting while driving” laws are enacted. Hands free telecommunicating devices will save a lot of our citizens, including our young people, from accidents and even death.

Our School Resource Officers will be selected for their outstanding accomplishments with youth. They will get the training they need to be able to deal with our young people at a critical time in their life.

The Adult Detention Center is a major source of mismanagement. Deputies are working Mandatory overtime because of staff shortages and no help.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I encourage you to look at my qualifications and compare my experience with that of my opponents. Loudoun County continues to be one of, if not, the fastest growing and the wealthiest County in the nation. We can no longer afford to take a “sit back and wait attitude”. The citizens deserve better and that is what I plan to bring to the Office.

Running for office is a huge undertaking and I need your help. Not only do I need your votes, I need your financial support, as well. I hope I can count on you to help me restore the pride and integrity back to the Office.

There is no substitute for experience!

Please tell your friends and family about me and help me spread the word. Fund raising and hosting events are also a great way to help my campaign!

Have a happy and healthy New Year!

    Sincerely,

    Mark Davis

  • Verbal Kint says:

This is horribly written. Thanks for sharing, Lloyd. Question: if morale is at an all time low for deputies, I’m wondering if Davis wants to tell us why or if he just wants to make an assertion?

And “get’s”????? That one is astonishing for anyone with even a high school education.

  • Not Davis Again says:

Like I said before, Mark is a nice guy and all, but he’s way out of his league running for Sheriff. He has no real leadership quality about himself and isn’t a deep thinker. Not many deputies are hoping Davis wins this.

  • Rizzo says:

What are Davis’ qualifications for sheriff? Does he belong to any organizations (volunteer, etc) in the county? I’d like to get a sense as to who this guy is running for chief law enforcemennt officer of the county.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Davis’ primary qualification seems to be his wife, and this is a near universal thought among political watchers in this county. I think he’s a little late to the party as well. He was vacillating on this and it seems others with more to gain talked him into this.

  • time on the line says:

Seems to me that isn’t entirely accurate. He has been working on the force in Loudoun and/or Leesburg for a really long time. No one else in the field can touch that so there is much more to him than being someone’s husband.

  • Lloyd the Idiot says:

    Who’s his wife?

  • Not Davis Again says:

His wife is named Betsy and she is the mayor of Middleburg. She’s the one with the real political ambitions. I can’t see most hardcore Loudoun Republicans being excited about a Hunt Country wannabe as their sheriff’s candidate.

I’ve been talking with a bunch of deputies and no one is excited about Davis. They’re all ready for simpson to be gone, but think Davis will be more of the same.

  • Verbal Kint says:

Just re read that letter from Davis. I cringed again. I suppose the word mandatory was capitalized because all words that begin with an M should be capitalized. That’s a rule, right?

  • G. Stone says:

I have met Mark and spoken to him several times. He is an impressive man and by all accounts was a good Sheriffs Deputy and if I am not mistaken currently a member the Leesburg PD. His experience is vast, especially his knowledge of the Constitutional side of the role of the Sheriffs office. I believe Mark spent many years at the LC Adult Detention Center and the Courts Security Division of the Sheriffs Office. He brings a lot to the race for Sheriff.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

It looks like “Constitutional” is one of the Davis talking points, including a big mention in this LTM article:

    http://www.loudountimes.com/index.php/news/article/mark_it_down_loudoun_sheriffs_race_gets_fifth_candidate/

The Loudoun jail is apparently run like a third world hellhole, and I don’t know if experience there is so great electorally.

It is pretty clear already that Davis is the Plowman candidate in the race. When can we expect Davis’ endorsement of Dick Black?

  • Lloyd the Idiot says:

    Stone, define “Constitutional”

  • Loudoun Insider says:

I know how my blue collar father defined it!

  • Loudoun Patriot says:

Lloyd- “the constitutional side of the office” refers to the fact that the office of the county Sheriff is required by the Virginia Constitution to run the jails and the courts.
    *
The law enforcement role is an add-on, so to speak, for countys that don’t have a police department. Some sheriff’s have that “street” role (like Loudoun) and some dont, but ALL county sheriffs run the jails and courts in their county, per the constitution, and get state funding to do so.

  • A Real Patriot says:

Hey Lloyd, I thnk this last comment tells you exactly who wrote that drivel from the Davis campaign.

  • Lloyd the Idiot says:

At least the capitalization was right.

  • Loudoun Patriot says:

Nope, just trying to answer Lloyds question, a lot of people dont realize why the “constitutional officers” are called what they are and how it all works, the funding etc.

  • A Real Patriot says:

Yeah – right…. you couldn’t land Chapman so now you’re shilling for Davis. Have fun losing another one.

  • Uh….Real patriot…you wanna reign that in a little until you inform yourself? Loudoun Patriot didn’t type a word in support of anyone. They merely pointed out what “constitutional” in this context meant.
If you go over to Common Sense and read the post about the Sheriff’s race, you can clearly see that LP has endorsed no one.

  • G. Stone says:

Loudoun Patriot explained it very well. A county can choose to have a Police Dept separate from the sheriffs office, such as Fairfax, Prince William and Arlington counties. However, the jails and courts are still under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff. Sheriffs do not forfeit their role in law enforcement within the jurisdiction, they simply allow the Police Departments to takeover the role of street enforcement and investigations. Some Sheriffs Departments that operate in counties that have a police Department still maintain some road operations. These are usually limited in their scope. In that Sheriffs have statutory control of the jails and courts they are also responsible for serving Bench Warrants. The Sheriffs office in Loudoun is the largest full service Department in the Commonwealth.

  • Lovettsville Lady says:

I’ve met Davis, but have no idea who his wife is. Who is she?

  • A Real Patriot says:

Settle, go look at the bottom of the Davis website to see who it’s ‘powered by’ and you get the answer. That doesn’t bode well for the Davis campaign.

  • Lloyd the Idiot says:

Lovett L, look up a few comments. Iasked the same thing

  • G.Stone says:

I’ve met Davis, but have no idea who his wife is. Who is she?

The Mayor or Middleburg, a very nice lady. He also has a teenage daughter. Both his wife and daughter are wonderful people. I have met both. Mark has a terrific family, he should be very proud.

  • Loudoun Lady says:

LP has a nemesis already – A Real Patriot? I expect the counter punch poster to A Real Patriot to be be “A Really, Real Patriot”.

  • G.Stone says:

    Dear Real
I spoke with LP about this last week, she works for a law firm that does a lot of criminal work and prevents her from working with or endorsing and candidate for Sheriff. I know she is personal friends with Verne, As am I ,and she is a long time friend of Mark’s wife. She really likes Mike Chapman too as do I. You might wnat to re-read her post at: http://www.novacommonsense.com
And yes, we all know a colleague of hers( a very talented dude I might add )does lots of excellent websites for many candidates, political committees and businesses all over the state, no news there.

    Regards

A Really, Really Really Real Patriot.

  • G. Stone says:

“That doesn’t bode well for the Davis campaign.”

Just the opposite my friend. This was an excellent decision by Davis. I know if I were running for office that would be the group I would look to for guidance and professional help. That group happens to be top shelf.

  • A Real Patriot says:

Greg Stone putting out the company line I see – are you under contract yet?

Real Patriots do not partner up with Democrat-icks and try to work both sides of the aisle.

  • cop4ever says:

An officer with Mark Davis’s credentials should NOT even be in the running for sheriff. The Sheriff’s position in LC demands executive management experience, extensive LE experience and higher education. Looking at the grammar mistakes in his letter/release his lack of education is evident, never mind the lack or executive LE and management experience. Why is a candidate who finished 4th in last election in this race?

  • Loudoun Insider says:

One more day to define the candidate who is so far defined by a ticking clock and a huge gimme money icon. This is going over about as well as Bob Lazaro’s Chairman trial balloon.

  • G.Stone says:

“Real Patriots do not partner up with Democrat-icks and try to work both sides of the aisle.”

This is a first. Yea, right. I am so welcomed on that side the aisle.

  • BlackOut says:

cop4ever, I am with you on your comment about education. Mark isn’t highlighting any education credentials so it is safe to assume he has none. From what I can tell Mark Davis has the same educational credentials as Greg Ahlemann. Look how that worked out for him. This county is too large not to consider the best AND well educated for important positions like Sheriff. Chances are Mark is a nice guy just like Greg, I prefer a stronger education foundation. Mark does look to have more experience than Greg.

For the record, at this point I know very little about all the candidates and haven’t decided who to support.

  • cop4ever says:

I am not saying the sheriff’s postion demands a law degree or PHD, but c’mon in the year 2011 at least a Bachelors and Masters degree should assist any candidate in running a department with a large budget. We don’t need another Simpson who doesn’t attend the budget meetings because they are too confusing for him. LC deserves a top notch sheriff

  • BlackOut says:

    cop4ever.

At a minimum it should be a Bachelors. Anything else is added benefit.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Stone, I’m pretty sure that wasn’t directed at you.

  • I see that real patriot is an amatuer blogger. Noone needs to throw names in here, as much as you think it adds to your control. It actually makes you look more amatuerish. Novice on, dumbass.

  • G.Stone says:

Mark Davis made his announcement last evening in Leesburg. He made some nice remarks and mentioned that his Website was now live.
