Simpson On Leave???

By Loudoun Insider

I’ve heard from two people now with inside knowledge that Sheriff Steve Simpson has told his head honchos at LCSO that he won’t be in much for a while since he’s so busy as CEO of Performance Beverage Group, the manufacturer of Nine Iron.  It does make sense since he’s missed some regular meetings recently.   It could have something to do with the civil suit he’s embroiled in over the control of Performance Beverage Group.  I’ve been promised some court documents soon.  Does he still draw a county salary while he works all that out?

Reminds me of the Timmy Kaine days. Too many politicians get elected only to take on another job while still drawing their pay for their elected position.

Could be worse, I suppose. In New York elected officials can actually “retire” from their position and start drawing a state pension while they’re still in office and drawing a paycheck for their elected job. Hats off to Tim Kaine and Sheriff Simpson for working so hard to make us more like New York State.

  • Fear & Loathing says:

The sheer arrogance of this man is never ending. Unfortunately as Simpson is a constitutional officer, only the Governor can order an investigation by the State Police and then ultimately removed. So he can continue to draw his $150,000 plus salary while never reporting to work. Wonder what the deputies think about this? Their leader expects them to work all the while he is off doing other business ventures. Sickening would not be a strong enough word. Why does the press not pick this stuff up. Has he got them totally in the bag? Where is the old days when the Washington Post would actually do some investigative reporting?

The voters will need to be the last word it looks like and if enough people realize what is going on, the Sheriff is toast. How much more does it take?

  • InTheKnow says:

Knowing that Mr. Simpson draws a salary for the rest of the year when he sporadically comes to work, I don’t think that will change now just because he has taken a more formal leave of absence. Fortunately, our deputies are professionals and they continue to serve honorably regardless of the issues involving their nominal leader. During the last campaign season, Mr. Simpson said that it was not the right time for a “rookie sheriff” in Loudoun. Well, Mr. Simpson, is this this the right time for a part-time sheriff?

  • Loudoun Insider says:

I think much of the press is caught in a conundrum with Simpson – they know how vindictive he can be, and if their reporters want good access and tips, they better be nice to him.

Here’s another question to ponder – could Simpson maybe realize he’s done for and not be running again? I don’t think he’s made a formal announcement, has he? You would think with four announced challengers he would be in full campaign mode by now.

Of course if his Nine Iron venture doesn’t work out and he’s booted from the company, maybe he’ll need this job more than ever. Kind of like Speakman needing this job since his mortgage/debt reduction company went under.

  • Frobisher says:

    Civil suit? Details please?

  • BlackOut says:

If this is true and he’s hooked up with a big CEO gig, is anyone sure he is even running for re-election? Following all this, and assuming it’s true makes me think he’s check out.

Now if the court papers really exist and are revealed then I’d say we have a full fledged forest fire happening, with little cover. There would be more to worry about then just keeping a job, or going for re-election.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

I don’t have enough details yet to post anything substantive, but have been promised more information. We’ll see what it all shows. There’s a couple pretty big bombshells in what I’ve seen so far. And this definitely isn’t any kind of big time CEO gig.

From what I hear we have had a part time sheriff for last couple of years. He is either selling 9 iron out of his county car or hitting his 9 iron at Rasberry Falls when he should be working. What a fraud-I thought the LTM was writting some good investigative pieces(El Atari) and then they lost their nerve or the GOBN got to them-what a shame.
