Black Packs His Bags – AGAIN

By Lloyd the Idiot

UPDATED: See announcement below the fold

Dick Black just announced that he’s moving – again – to better his odds at winning a senate seat.  This time, the winning town is, drum roll please, Ashburn.

In his curious announcement, he references a Loudon Independent article from August 2010 that discussed his potential Ashburn residency, apparently to make it look like that was his plan all along.  What a character.

To help alleviate the disgust I get from political opportunism like this, I look to the fact that senatorial districts aren’t even set yet (see my post below).  As such, he could well find himself being outside Herring’s district once again.

Not to make it look like he never left, I don’t think — just to make it look like he’s planned this move for a LONG time, WAY before he had to move to run for that senate seat.

I don’t think people will be fooled.

  • BlackOut says:

He freaked when he saw Arlington in his future. Unfortunately for him he will have no where to run and hide.

And boy I would not want to be his mover. He’s got a TON of baggage!

  • The Shadow (redux) says:

Come on Blackout – you know Dick will just move back down to Stafford.

Geez and I thought Miller was a carpetbagger, turns out Dick Black is the King of Carpetbagging.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Where’s the announcement, Lloyd? I think they cut me out of the emailing list!

I just checked his website and saw nothing. I guess he’ll need to change his “Loudoun County’s Best Friend” theme now since the new district takes in a lot of PWC. It looks like he’ll be matched up against perennial loser and fellow right wing nut Bob FitzSimmonds (PWC’s Dick Black) for a race to see who can be most far-right. That will be interesting to watch, and will definitely be bloodier than Black-Phillips.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Good to see you back, Shadow!

  • Chris says:

If its between Black and FitzSimmonds, I think Bob takes it hands down. He may have lost several times – but he took on one of the most entrenched and powerful senators in the state several times – and when others took a pass. Fitz is genuine and would actually be living, right now, in this district rather than moving.

  • PWC says:

Bob Fitzsimmonds?? Are you kidding me? I am no real Dick Black fan but the Fitz is nothing but a loser, and he is just as crazy as Black. You should hear this joker down here in Prince William claiming to be the only ‘real conservative’ in town.

The guy has run for public office four times. He has yet to win.

  • PWC says:

Chris, dont give him tooo much credit for already living in the district. He has been publicly claiming to the republican committee here in Prince William for the last few months that “I will move if I have to in order to get in the Senate”.

  • NoVA Guy says:

No surprises here……At least he isn’t running against Caren Merrick

  • Mom says:

Typical, the Senate Dems present us with a golden opportunity to both pick up Colgan’s seat and establishment a new GOP stronghold and we find ourselves forced to pick between a carpetbagging loser and a four-time loser whose average margin of loss is 9.3%, hardly keeping it close. I don’t know what it is in the PWC and Loudoun water supplies that continually leads us to conduct circular firing squads but it really needs to stop.

I understand the concerns of those out there (JY I especially mean you) who would opt for one of these two over a moderate “squish” but I would suggest there is a viable option if someone can convince him (or more appropriately Heidi) to do it, would someone please draft John Stirrup.

  • G.Stone says:

    “draft John Stirrup”
    Hmmmmmmm

  • Jack Ryan says:

Great news Dick Black will be in the 22nd.

  • BlackOut says:

Jack, don’t get to excited. I am going to wait until the districts are finalized. Black’s RV has currently been spotted in the 22nd but is subject to change.

  • LloydTheIdiot says:

“Great news Dick Black will be in the 22nd.”

    Agreed.

    I don’t live in the 22nd.

  • James Young says:

With the proviso that Bob is a friend, I am ALWAYS skeptical about a politician who moves simply to run for public office.

  • Intriguing says:

Jack: What if LI were to coordinate a live, moderated web chat?

This would allow everyone to ask you questions, and we can clear the air once and for all.

I can’t speak for others in terms of what questions they might pose of you, but I personally would probably lead off with these three:

“Jack, how do YOU define the term ‘honor,’ and in looking back at the 2007 election cycle, do you think your actions were ‘honorable?’”

“Jack, how many hours elapsed between the LCRC convention ending and the moment that you filed your paperwork to run as an Independent?”

“Since rejoining the LCRC in 2008, Jack, how hard has it been for you to comply with the LCRC Pledge?”

  • Mosby's Ghost says:

Wait….didn’t Red Herring do the same a couple of years ago? just sayin’

  • NotJohnSMosby says:

Well, beyond the fact that anyone can claim someone else is a carpetbagger in an area where hardly anyone lived 20 years ago, if Miller wants to move back to his other house and if Black wants to pack up the burning crosses and pitchforks in his garage to move wherever, just let them. I do have to recommend that you all just move to Frederick or Warren Counties or West Virginia and try and start fresh. Clearly your plans for a utopian Republican society in eastern Loudoun have failed due to the fact that most of the people living in Loudoun have been there for so short a period of time they’re still trying to figure out which Giant is closer to their house, much less who where the candidates on the ballot lived six months earlier.

  • LloydTheIdiot says:

NJSM, it’s not a matter of how long you’ve lived in place, it’s the fact that you moved there for no other reason that to run for office. Black and Miller have that same problem.

  • Jack Ryan says:

Intrigue – my schedule is wide open for a webchat from November 9th and anytime thereafter. Schedule a date and time after Nov. 9th. I charge 300/hour for my time….really look forward to it. Also, how do I become a blog contributer here? I didn’t realize there was such a demand for the thoughts of an also-ran candidate…

  • Lady M says:

Dick Blacks theme song should be Ramblin Man

  • BlackOut says:

In my view anytime a candidate moves it’s because he lacks confidence that he/she will win where he is known best. I use to think moving was due to ego, but I’ve settled on it being nothing more than being a coward. Either way it’s a character flaw.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

The whole BS party line that Mark Herring is scared of Dick Black is ridiculous. If Black was so convinced that he can beat Herring he should move into Herring’s district instead of away from him. The only person scared is Dick Black.

  • BlackOut says:

This is one hell of a big reason why Dick Black and his ilk are dangerous to our country:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/03/us/politics/03pastor.html?_r=1&hp

I don’t want any politician telling me how to interpret my bible, and I don’t want any pastor telling me how to interpret the Constitution.

  • Bill Desmond says:

Dick Black is a virus that goes into remission and then keeps coming back.

I would suggest a few simple rules for the upcoming political season:

    1) Do not support or let any of your friends support Dick Black for whatever office he runs for.

    2) Do not support or let any of your friends support any candidate who has endorsed Dick Black. Such candidates fall within one of three categories:
    A) They are Republican candidates being “Black-mailed” (endorse me or you will be primaried)
    B) They are fellow disciples of Dick Black
    C) They are gullible.

  • Jack Ryan says:

BO – should I post “This is one big reason why Mark Herring and his ilk are dangerous to our country and then link to Pelosi, Reid and Frank.” I get your point, but the push poll tactic used above I could do without. I don’t think it is fair to either candidate to use such a broad brush. BO – Do you seriously think that someone who supports Dick Black is a danger to our country?

  • BlackOut says:

Jack, I guess on second thought danger isn’t a completely descriptive term for Dick Black. He’s more like a explosive dud. He wasn’t able to influence anyone in Richmond when he was first there and has very little chance to change that.

Push poll? I have no idea what you are talking about. This was an article that I happened to agree with. If anything is being pushed it’s the mix of religion and politics.

As for Mark Herring I would guess he’s not worried about anyone moving into his turf. Solid record of getting things done. Including a lot of bi-partisan work. Two things that really appeal to reasonable voters. Including Independents.

Also, last time we spoke you didn’t seem to think Dick Black had much of a chance in the general.

  • Jack Ryan says:

Using a picture of some nut and referencing Dick Black…as if Dick Black had anything to do with the guy you linked to. Trying to associate the thought of CO lunatic with Dick Black even though no association exists, thats what I was referring to. When we spoke, I didn’t realize the amount of support DB has in the community…I’m sure we’ll catch up sooner or later with the rest of the races, would love to hear your thoughts…

  • Loudoun Insider says:

As usual, LCRC people say one thing in private and another in public.

  • BlackOut says:

Jack, come on. You know as well as I know Dick Black buys into the whole premise of the article. It’s no secret. Hell, he probably thinks this stuff is mild.

  • localgop says:

Glad to see people are waking up to what Dick Black really is….a carpet bagging opportunist.
