Conspicuous By Her Absence

By Lloyd the Idiot

In today’s mail was  a piece from Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott York that listed the endorsement of all the local Republican Loudoun County candidates except one – Suzanne Volpe.   The same is true of his website. Volpe’s website, moreover, has no reference to a York endorsement (or any endorsement for that matter other than Frank Wolf).  Steve Stockman, the other Republican candidate for chairman, has no endorsements listed on his site.

Given that even Mick Staton has endorsed York, it makes one wonder whether this is just a timing issue or if it’s something deeper.  It certainly could be timing – Dick Black’s reciprocal endorsement of York, for example, must still be in the mail.

Instead of speculation perhaps an e-mail or a phone call will get to the bottom of it. I’ve done half the work for you: York4Loudoun@Leadership2011.org or dial 571.934.6144

  • Here is another list of endorsements Scott York received:

    Glenn Beck
    Rush Limbaugh
    Grover Norquist
    George W. Bush
    Dick Cheney
    Carl Paladino
    Michelle Bachmann
    Sarah Palin
    Porky Pig (“That’s all folks!”)
    Donald Duck
    The Taz…aka Tazmanian Devil
    Bugs Bunny
    The Cat in the Hat
    The Grinch
    Freddy Krugger

Well, there are just to many to mention. Let’s vote for Scott York at the Convention in July. He is the conservative Tea Party candidate in this race. I support his years of fiscal responsibility on the Board.

  • Loudounite says:

Endorsements really aren’t worth the paper (or bits) they take up these days. We have become nothing but a good ole’ boys club, with endorsements and donations being traded back and forth like unfltered cigarettes in high school. I think it works FOR Volpe not to be part of the new LC Tea Party crowd! Whoda thunk she would be the one absent from that roll call…? That makes me like her better. I hear the Dem that is contemplating a run against Volpe is a Turner soldier (or “Elite” as he is now referring to his group), and also a strong and present face for their (whatever the heck they are calling it now) redistricting plan. As with all Turner recruits, she should be easy pickins’.

Good article from the Leesburg Patch on York’s recent endorsements.

RWN, I sent an email. We’ll see what response we get.

  • Eric the 1/2 Troll says:

York, Higgins, Clarke, Reid, Delgaudio – hmmm…. this should make us comfortable about the future of Loudoun…HOW exactly? Of course the Republican alternative is the same four with Stockman at the head…no builder interest represented THERE of course.

Now add to the mix St. Pius V (aka Dick Black) and you really have to wonder “why would I vote for Scott York at this point FOR ANYTHING?”

  • Leej says:

well one thing not mentioned in the article is a common link to many of these politicians. John Woods who the hell is the real John Woods and what is his motive for backing so many politicians and school board candidates. To the point he gives some of them jobs. This does not smell good. Maybe I am wrong but something is very odd and wrong with this next election season. Maybe York is getting too big of a head like black had and still does. And these politicians feel no matter what they do they have the election in the bag. I see in my own little world in Loudoun that people that supported York in the past are having a hard time with yorks new personality change. ;-)

I believe if we figure out Woods motives then we will get the real answers.

  • Barbara Munsey says:

Eric, something not to forget in your near-exclusively Dem worldview is that while York left the Republican tag to join in the downzonings during the late 90s and early portion of the ‘oughts, he still lives in Sterling and bucked mightily at a lot of the overreaching central planning most recently evidenced by the CBPO, and what it would have done to the communities he’s still a part of.

That’s the main reason he’s all of a sudden Satan to the baying pack of lalaland: he wasn’t a good little bot in getting that forced through on lousy process, lack of proper mapping, poor citizen outreach and notification, “just because” the “right” people stomped their little feet and said so.

Of course you have no reason to vote for him anymore–he’s off the “good” column in the talking point list.

My daughter will vote for the first time this fall, and he is the only candidate she already has decided on. She did a good part of her growing up in the boardroom, with crayons and books and homework, and in high school chose to address the BoS on some issues, spiky dyed hair, nose pierce, pleather pants and all.

She read his mailer last night and said she didn’t care what party he runs under, she feels like she knows who he is and he knows how to run a board.

He’s got one piece of the youth vote right there, and I can tell you true she won’t vote this way or that because either her father or I think so. She pays attention on her own.

  • DC Beltway Bandit says:

The known divide between Volpe/Black and York is well known within the LCRC. So the endorsement(s) or lack there of really is not surprise.

  • Eric the 1/2 Troll says:

“Eric, something not to forget in your near-exclusively Dem worldview…”

Hmmm, Barb, I think in the VPAP report for Scott I am like his 7th highest contributor so…there goes that idea. My move away from Scott has nothing to do with CBPO, it has to do with his move toward the new Republican developer board and his abandonment of any semblance of independence – I doubt I will be alone.

I am glad that your duaghter is voting and educating herself for that vote. Apparently Scott’s flyer is working.

Of course I voted for Reagan when I was her age…lol…

  • Jack Ryan says:

Eric reposnd in robot tone…new Republican developer Board…give the template a rest you imbecile.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Jack Ryan calling anyone else an imbecile is really too much to bear.

I think the Volpe silence towards York is what drove him into the arms of Dick Black and Mick Staton. So the real question is – is there a rift between Volpe and Black/Staton, or are they simply using York to help Dick against Stirrup while Volpe rallies the troops against York? And if there is a rift, who has more clout these days in the Black Brigade? I tell you, it’s probably more accurate to call it the Volpe Brigade these days because she yields the real power in my opinion.

  • Barbara Munsey says:

As I said, Eric, you have a single mindset that takes the form of a single issue–chanting about development, here in the trashed economy.

Actually, she said she already had her mind made up before that flyer, its only interest to her was that he was running as a Republican.

She tends to identify as small “l” libertarian, so party is no big deal to her, although she does think a lot of progressive Dems are certifiable.

She remembers Bellanca from back in the Lenah days, where she read a lot of his spew that he subsequently scrubbed from the airways, and she’s known for some time that he operates with a big ego and scant info.

You’re comparing York to Reagan? Wow. That is very nice of you, Eric. Maybe you’re not done with him after all?

  • Intriguing says:

Jack faaled eithr tupying or Englesh in high school er both….wen will he come out of the closet….about whuy he worked against the r’s last eliction?

  • Eric the 1/2 troll says:

“As I said, Eric, you have a single mindset that takes the form of a single issue–chanting about development, here in the trashed economy.”

Yes, Barb, because we ALL know that development is finished here in Loudoun. No big issue anymore because we are in a permanent housing slump. No need to worry about over building commercial development. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain…

  • Eric the 1/2 troll says:

    Jack,

Here is YOUR VPAP list of contribitors – top four:

$3,500 Va Assn of Realtors – Dulles Area Leesburg
    $3,000 Va Conservative Alliance Richmond
    $2,500 Bernard Farkas Vienna
$2,500 Va Residential Construction Inc Burke

So now that we know that VCA is a developer shell we can conclude that at least three of your top four were developer industry contributors. Did you switch teams again, Jack? Aren’t you somehow associated with Loudoun Republicans right now?

    No developers here…these are not the developers you’re looking for…move along…move along…

  • Barbara Munsey says:

Eric, if Obama wins again next year, yes it may well be permanent. As it is, it sin’t turning around overnight so no, you favorite boogeyman isn’t really an issue this year.

I’m guessing you saw today’s WaPo article about the cronyism in the “green” “jobs” subsidies related to…campaign contributions to the President, of all things! lol

That VPAP stuff is whose? Again, what is Staton running for?

  • Eric the 1/2 Troll says:

    Barb,

That is Jack Ryan’s VPAP filing…I just wonder why he would say that the term “…new Republican developer Board…” is no longer a valid term? Apparently he can speak with some authority seeing as how close he is/was with the daveloper crowd. Again, I thought I read somewhere he is very involved with the current LCRC. Is that close enough to “running” for you or do you still think it has no bearing, Ms. Wiz?

  • Jack Ryan says:

Eric; go look at my vpap report – there is very little developer money; 3k from a long-time grade school friend and that is it (currently ceo of Van Metre). God forbid a very successful lifetime friend gives you a donation. Out of the 65k we raised it is easy to see your charge is unfounded. The DAAR endorsement is not developer money you dolt. They are business folks that make money on resales, not building…The conservative group has nothing to do with developer money either. Not sure how you twist a group dedicated to conservative causes as developers? I’ll have to look up the farkas donation, I don’t recall it…

  • Loudoun Insider says:

The Virginia Conservative Alliance was just about broke before the 2007 elections. There was a big meeting with all the developer types and various power brokers where they schemed to have Greenvest companies all donate to VCA, whihc would then shell out the money back to candidates, including Jack Ryan and Ken Mikeman, non-Republicans running that year against duly nominated Republican incumbents. Virginia Conservative Alliance was nothing more than a greenvest pass-through, but keep selling that bullshit bill of goods if you want to try, Jack.

  • Eric the 1/2 Troll says:

Ryan says DARR is not associated with development because they rely on resales…oh come on, Jack. Who do you think you are fooling? You really would like to contend that realtors have not benefited economically from a residential building boom (the biggest bubble in history) in Loudoun County? You have got to be kidding.

LI has shown the VCA to be developer backed above and previously on this blog. You need to do a bit more than spout denials to get away from their taint. Now you made (friend or not) the Van Meter connection. So I count 4 out of your top 4 contributions developer industry contributions. That $11,500 which make up about HALF of the money coming into your campaign according to VPAP – not that there aren’t other developer interests further down on the list.

So my question stands…since the current LCRC has no interest in the development of Loudoun County – did you switch teams again, Jack?
