Farewell Folks

By Loudoun Insider

Hey, it’s your ole pal LI.  I’ve been dealing with some huge life changes and have just totally lost my interest in the bullshit known as politics.  All these years of effort on my part and others, and we still have a local government run like a fiefdom of the in crowd.  And too few people give a shit.  I really wasted a good chunk of my life on this stuff and will leave it to others to carry on.  If only say one percent of the population really took an interest and got involved we could really have some positive change, but nah, everyone is too busy with themselves here (and I guess just about everywhere else) to care about politics.  Just leave it to the Good Ole Boy and Girl Network and their PR people in what is called the “press”.

I’ll be leaving Loudoun County soon for good.  I’ll be back here and there on business and to visit the few good friends I made.  But holy crap is it amazing how many “friends” disappear when you can no longer help them out politically.  In retrospect, moving to Loudoun County and getting involved in politics was the biggest mistake of my life.  Live and learn as they say.  Enjoy the Black Brigade, Metro, and Fetch.  Oh yeah and taxes to pay for all the special favors.  Good grief.

You regular readers should always know that I never did any of this for any kind of personal gain or fame.  It was a quixotic quest to be a beacon of truth amongst bullshit.  How some of the GOBGN folks sleep at night I’ll never understand.  But we’ll all be judged in the end by a power greater than even the LCRC.

Good luck, Loudouners, I hope some of you stay involved and make a difference.

You took the blog from largely political discussion to include holding elected officials accountable for their actions, at a time when no other entities were really doing much of the latter. You made a lot of people nervous and brought increased transparency to both politics and government.

You made a big difference here in Loudoun County, LI. Some who are enjoying a respite from oversight are probably relieved to see you go. I personally will miss you. I am sure many others will be thinking the same thing.

  • Scout says:

You made a great contribution, LI. Humans and politics often mix in a fairly base solution, and I’m sorry that your efforts have caused you so much frustration. But, at least at times, it only takes a few clear voices at the right time to prevent bad things from happening.
Thanks are due you and best wishes for the future. I’ve enjoyed our talks. You know where I am. Stay in touch.

  • Barbara Munsey says:

We certainly have had our differences over the years LI, but I was glad that we progressed to the point where we could butt heads yet do so with personal respect for one another in spite of our differences.

I wish you the best in your future, truly.

May the road rise to meet you

  • Nice Guy Eddie says:

This is bad news for Loudoun County. You held everyone’s feet to the fire, regardless of political stripe. By far the best conservative blog around. Please reconsider.

  • Hillsboro says:

LI, I truly appreciate your dogged efforts over the years to keep our overlords honest. I hope you find some peace and tranquility wherever you may land.

  • Linda B. says:

Best of luck in the next phase of your life, LI!

You might have been a headache, but you never were a bore.

  • novamiddleman says:

Came to the same conclusions several years ago LI. Real friends and family are much more important than politics. Good luck in the future.

On a larger political point both parties have the same pay to play concept. The danger I see is as Fairfax County continue to move to one party rule this will only increase.

We need to continue to support competent people of EITHER party wherever they can be found because at least in Fairfax its getting to the point that it is nearly impossible to win as a Republican in most areas.

  • Independent voter says:

LI, you are already HUGELY missed in the blogosphere here in LowDown County. Blackout, are you ready to step into LI’s shoes? We need new leadership to keep the county’s far right nutjobs on their toes. The developer-sponsored crowd is probably salivating at your departure, LI. El Dicko (Black) will be high-fiving it with his crazy cabal.

Enjoy your new life and pursuits. Like so many other fans, I wish you much success. Pop in to TC now then and say howdy. Good luck and God speed.

  • Perfect Timing says:

Many heartfelt thanks to you LI. No matter what you may think now, you know deep down you really made a difference. You really will be missed.

Wish you all the best with your move and future. I know good things are down the road for you.

  • LocoConservative says:

Life just keeps getting better and better. Maybe you can tackle Onally’s higher taxes and rain taxes. Oh, that’s right…you think they’re right on queue!!

  • G.stone says:

Don’t let the door hit you in ass. Bye.

  • Tom Seeman says:

“In retrospect, moving to Loudoun County and getting involved in politics was the biggest mistake of my life.”

    I agree

  • Eric the 1/2 a troll says:

Good luck, LI. You will be missed and you made a difference. Never think you didn’t. You are a good man.

    Take care and God bless.

  • Ashburner says:

Greg Stone and Tom Seeman are showing us all the class of the Loudoun Republican Committee. What a bunch of useless tools.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Just released from comments from moderation, good to hear from you Novamiddleman. And I will not miss party puppets like Stone and Seeman. The puppet masters can sic their attack dogs on anyone who gets out of line now with little hope anyone will fight back. How ridiculous that some of these people think they wield big power when they’re being played by master manipulators.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

And the best Loudoun focused blogger now is without a doubt Realloudoun. For anyone looking for an alternative to the LCRC lackey bloggers, go to Realloudoun for excellent and often very amusing counterpoint.

  • Barbara Munsey says:

LI, “real”loudoun is delusional, particularly their recent post rewriting history on the “citizen” being wrongfully bullied on a petition.

That “concerned citizen” (sob!) was Andrea McGimsey who lied about being paid SIXTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS by a lobbying group that hides its political work behind a 501(c)3 filing.

I paid about $60 for a copy of the petition, which I still have, and I went through it an collated the duplicate pages and FAKE ZIPCODES–as in not assigned by the USPS, as well as zips from MD, PA, WVa, and OHIO.

Employees of the 501(c)3 who paid her signed multiple times, with variants of their first names at both home and 501(c)3 office addresses. One sat on multiple county appointments, one later served on the planning commission.

Democratic county appointees signed multiple times (one of them NINE times). A subsequent D supe signed multiple times.

And that’s before we got to the children’s crayon scribbles, and “John and Mary Citizen”.

All of which together totalled several THOUSAND fewer signatures than were claimed in the PR crap cGimsey lied about being paid to spew.

And they were four months late handing it in because “they had to vet every signature”? Complete unadulterated rancid horseshit. It took them four months to have the cut and paste parties where they glued strips of names next to strips of zipcodes and then made photocopies.

It’s nice of you to give them a plug, in an “enemy of my enemies is surely my friend” kind of way, but they are nothing more than a barely-connected-to-scraps-of-fact propaganda mill for the other half of middleman’s spot-on pay to play.

Plus as a site that keeps control of it’s deathgrip on its preferred alternate reality, it allows no discussion. Hence, useless as well as delusional.

I do wish you well in your personal future.

I still heartly disagree that “real” is anything of value other than monitoring the Beobachter of a small group of people every bit as out there as your perception of the people you fight against.

  • Barbara Munsey says:

Plus it is not an individual, but a collection, one of whom has posted here for years under a long list of socks.

If they ever run for office, should be very interesting.

  • BlackOut says:

True to form Stoner shows up and makes a total dick of himself. Again!

He is the poster child of what is wrong with the LCRC. Of course I reserve the billboard child of the LCRC to another narcissistic nucklehead.

  • Barbara Munsey says:

Just went back and read the whole post I reffed at the Fake: citizens get 2 or 1 minute (sob!), which is exactly what has ALWAYS happened depending on the volume of speakers in the going on SIXTEEN YEARS I’ve lived here, no matter what majority was up on the pendulum. And quite often that 1 minute designation was because (PAID) “concerned citizns” (sob!) had sent out mass emails to get people who signed FAKE PETITIONS to sign up en masse and read the same talking points (sent in more PAID emails) over and over until the wee hours of the morning.

But evil applicants get MORE. No shit, Sherlock–they get 15 minutes as part of review to present their project at public hearing, and staff gets a long time slot to present their review of same. That’s SOP whether anyone from the public decides to comment or not.

And the either stupidly uninformed angst, or more likely deliberate disinformation being promoted to fan angst, is right up there with multi-sock blogging too many places under too many names with equally incorrect angst about special “exemptions”, which are NOT the same as a SPEX.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Barb, yes there have been abuses on the environmental side as well, with McGimsey the worst in my opinion, but Realloudoun makes a lot of good points.

Let’s not turn my farewell post into another anti-PEC rant please.

  • Eric the 1/2 a troll says:

What appears obvious through this one-side rant is that the disdain the current 9-0 Republican BOS have for the right of the public to voice their opinion on a subject (particularly one involving new developments) before them is no new phenomenon.

  • Barbara Munsey says:

I never said PEC LI, but that is them in the case of the 65K fake petition by an average poor “citizen”, and if you add into your farewell to believe the Fake, all it does is further their opportunities for abuse by continuing to tell lies and spread disinformation–that’s what people do very effectively in an area with high turnover, because it’s easy to make it seem “real” to people who don’t know any better.

Eric, if everyone gets the same, then no one is shut out. Some of the paid activists wan’t more, because they’re “real”.

  • Perfect Timing says:

    Barbara

    Put a sock in it.

This is LI’s announcing he’s leaving thread.

  • edmundburkenator says:

Perfect Timing, some will want the last word at any occasion.

LI, without trying to sound Capraesque, you don’t know all of the good that you have done here.

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Right now, everything feels like an ending. But right now, everything is a beginning.

As I’ve told you before — and as I will continue to tell you — be kind to yourself.

  • Barbara Munsey says:

pt, I’ve spoken to LI and wished him well both under his nic and in other venues under his name. I do wish him well. Put a sock in yourself–part of his charm was that he (almost) NEVER backed down from a position, and one thing he and I came to be in agreement on is the farce that was McG.

Not a “last word” thing eb, but consider it so if it makes you feel like yourself; if Li truly is as disgusted by the McGs of this world as he is of other targets, then giving a farewell endorsement to similar activists allows abuse by the “good” guys to continue. You (and he) may agree with their targets, but as with McG, their methods (and standards, except where they’re concerned, in which case they have very low ones–me and not thee, you know) do little to recommend them.

  • Mary Gail Swenson says:

You may have taken on some bad guys and earned yourself a reputation as Don Quixote, but you also hurt some really good people along the way. You also seemed to take on a hateful persona over the past year or so, aiming your noble sword incorrectly at people who didn’t deserve it at all. Some of us who have stayed on and worked hard in the Republican Party in Loudoun County have all been tarnished by your wretched brush.
A lot of mixed metaphors here, but hopefully you get my meaning.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

MGS, let’s not go there again, it will upset people who would rather not have others reminded of it. A certain clique did not get the campaign consulting contract they wanted, then set out to destroy the person who got it and the candidate that rebuffed them. It was ridiculously petty and deserved scorn. I do not feel sorry at all for that battle.

  • You did a good job, LI

    So long & happy trails.

  • JTHmishmash says:

God bless you and good luck in the future!

  • Malcolm Baldwin says:

Thanks, LI, for your passion and steadfast concern for Loudoun. You’ll be missed, but here’s to your being happier, as I know you will be!

  • John Marsh says:

My sentiments exactly. Thanks and all the best

  • David Dickinson says:

Good luck in future endeavors. And, yes, there are many things more important that politics. I hope you find some peace and quiet to recharge, and sorry to hear you’ve hit a rough spot.

Suggest changing the banner from, “A Northern Virginia Republican Viewpoint since 2005”

    to

“A quixotic quest to be a beacon of truth amongst bullshit”

    It’s a little more snappy.

    God speed, LI.

  • Sarah S says:

    LI,
Your departure will indeed create a huge vacuum for many of us who value your honesty and perspective. I sincerely appreciate all your efforts to hold many officials accountable and bring sunshine to Loudoun.
    Wishing you the very best.
    But please, never say never!

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Thank you for the kind words, and many of you have the knowledge and tenacity to do what I have done. Consider stepping up and blogging at TC, it would be a shame to see the Loudoun component disappear here.

  • G2L says:

Much enjoyed the political banter here over the years, and therefore good reason to stay away from it at G2L…Good Luck!

  • Not impressed says:

    You rock, LI.
    Godspeed.

  • Bwana says:

You were never quixotic, always conscientious, and consistent in your positions. Perhaps that is all that a blog/blogger can do. IT development gives the chance to voice opinions, spread the word, and to shine light into the dark corners. You have done that consistently with a clear voice and withot hesitation.

God bless you and your future endeavors!

  • Dan says:

You did a fine job. Despite your understandable frustration you shouldn’t think that you had no impact. I’m certain you did.

No political fight is ever truly over (witness all the people who want to relitigate the entire 20th century and blow up 80+ years of shared consensus) and your efforts may yet bear fruit you can’t anticipate. Something about planting seeds is what I think they say.

Anyway, good luck to you in all your future endeavors.

Have a beer. It never hurts.

  • ACTivist says:

Still haven’t had that drink yet. You snubbing me?

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Thanks everyone for the kind words, especially you, Bwana, one of my favorite bloggers. Not snubbing you, ACT just sick of this shit and too little time right now, maybe in a couple weeks.

  • enviroman says:

You kept your idealism, never sold out to the exigencies of the political moment. Good luck.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Idealism really doesn’t mean shit anymore, unfortunately.

  • LI,

We’ll miss you. All that time spent affected and educated a lot of people. Please don’t sell yourself short. Good luck with the transition.

  • Snapped Shot says:

Been following you for who knows how many years now, LI, you’ll definitely be missed. I know exactly how you feel, I’ve tuned out of national politics for the very same reason. We’re beyond repair.

Best of luck to you in your new endeavors!

    Regards,
    Brian L
