Howie Lind Proves His Whitebread Bona Fides

By Loudoun Insider

howie lindI really can’t believe anyone could write this statement from the recent invite to the 10th District Advance Hospitality Suite with a straight face!

“The ethnic community in the 10th District will be providing the cuisine.”

Well, I guess looking at that photo of Howie (and could any name be more whitebread than Howie?) he can.  Yeah, those “ethnics” really cook up some spicy food – be careful, all you white folk!

Well let’s hope he “comes in peace” when he commingles with the natives.

  • edmundburkenator says:

Nice sweater. I’ve got $10 that says he was wearing penny loafers during that photograph.

  • BlackOut says:

    yup, and probably without socks.

  • Dan says:

This guy is hardly atypical in the Republican Party. He has lots and lots of company.

This is why you should seriously consider keeping Michael Steele as Chair of the RNC. How is it going to look if you dump your “ethnic” chairman after he lead you to such a great victory. It ain’t just about the soul food. It’s about the optics.

  • The Republicans are very lucky to have a man of Mr. Lind’s caliber as Chairman in the Tenth District.

No matter how often the morons play “gotcha” by picking apart his every utterance, the fact remains that he is a man of superb character, and is widely admired by Virginians, regardless of their party affiliation.

Virginia needs more men like Howie Lind in leadership positions in BOTH of the major political parties. Virginians and our United States will be far better served with honest political advocates, who can rigorously debate, while remaining in a civilized relationship with those who hold a different opinion.

  • BlackOut says:

Tyler, I enjoyed reading your comment. It seems you know him well. Do you know if he is the type of guy that puts actual pennies in his loafers or is a penny-less loafer type guy.

  • NotJohnSMosby says:

    “widely admired by Virginians”

Yeah, he’s right up there with Jefferson, Madison, Washington, all of those guys.

What a complete idiot. What kind of ethnic cuisine would that be? Pizza? Brisket? Corned beef and cabbage perhaps?

Well, at least the cuisine will be “ethnic” since the people eating it will all be white.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Pretty funny, NJSM, I was kind of wondering the same thing – just what ethnicity are we talking about since it isn’t a plural ethnic community he is referring to, but a singular one.

“The ethnic community in the 10th District” as if it is some monolithic entity. How clueless, ignorant, and condescending!

  • NotJohnSMosby says:

I just hope they’re not illegals.

  • Dan says:

Well, if they’re here illegally then send them back to Ireland. But keep the corned beef and cabbage.

    Love that ethnic cuisine!

  • To answer the, not too serious question: I first met Howie Lind when we both served on Admiral “Fox” Fallon’s U.S. Second Fleet staff on the USS Mount Whitney. At Second Fleet, Howie was highly regarded for his reliable leadership and his well researched briefings. Later, after we had both retired from the Navy, Howie and I wound up working for the U.S. State Department to help with Iraq reconstruction efforts.

Howie Lind has always exemplified the very best qualities found among our finest Virginians.

Those who try to slander such a fine citizen are below contempt.

Stick to the issues, and present real ideas and real solutions to the problems that we face.

Howie and I are in different political parties, but I have never seen him fail to debate issues in a fair, civil manner. We need more political leaders, like Howie Lind, on both sides, who will restore civility to the political process.

Here in Virginia, we often have citizens who vote Democratic in one election, and then vote for a Republican in the next. Virginia gentlemen, like Howie Lind, understand that today’s opponent, may likely be tomorrow’s ally, so maintaining civil relations across the political spectrum is the key to successful Virginia politics.

Howie Lind clearly understands Virginia, while those who are always trying to smear those on the opposite side, still just don’t get it.

  • G. Stone says:

The Chairman did a find job at last nights advance. Howie welcomed all and was a gracious host at the 10th District Hospitality Suite. Howie is dedicated to getting Republicans elected in all upcoming races and is both encouraging and helpful to all candidates from within the District.

We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the event.

  • The Bulletproof Monk says:

I was extremely apprehensive about Howie’s performance coming into the Convention. In the time since, Howie has grown on me. He was front and center for Frank Wolf, he has been even-handed in acknowledging ALL candidates for the 33rd District (or whatever it becomes)… and he continues to respond to my messages quickly and politely. I’m quickly becoming a beleiver.

  • Loudoun Lady says:

Those that take the time to actually meet, converse and interact with Howie (and other Party leaders and elected officials that are “mocked” here) usually find that they can work together, or in the very least be civil to each other. Howie is a real gentleman and it’s been a pleasure getting to know him over the past 6 months.

The 10th District had good food, nice cold drinks and a very hospitable Chairman that took the time to talk to everyone. Howie listened very patiently when I expressed my extreme displeasure (actually I was venting big time) over Tysons Corner traffic, anyone that sat in it knows my pain. It took some people 2 hours to get to Tysons (from a variety of points in LC) because of the accident on the Toll Road. If we are ever lucky enough to have the Advance in NOVA again my suggestion is to come slightly West and out of Tysons.

  • Loudoun Insider says:

LL, exactly what was that “ethnic” cuisine anyway?

  • Loudoun Lady says:

Most of the food was gone by the time I got in there, but I saw remnants of empinadas. There was plenty of beer and wine though. A lot of the suites still had a good variety of food and one of them had delicious desserts – to include a chocolate fountain.

  • Loudoun Lady says:

FWIW, Several people told me the food in the 10th was good – so yes, it was Mexican/Spanish cuisine.

  • Lovettsville Lady says:

    LI,
I cannot decide which of your syndromes is worse, your Howie Lind Derangement Syndrome or your Dick Black Obssession Syndrome. The syndromes have taken over your brain and darn near shot it full of holes.

I agree with the other LL, ENOUGH already. Surely you can find some other things to discuss on this blog.

  • NotJohnSMosby says:

Do you people actually go around calling him “Chairman Lind”?

  • Loudoun Insider says:

Ws it Cosco, LL, or from the Indian shopkeeper at 7-11 (double ethnic bonus!)?

LL2, you are hanging around another metaphor over-user too much. This post and the commentary was hilarious, and the statement by Lind was ridiculous. This is my first post about Lind in ages. Again, if you don’t like it, don’t read it.
